Asian Para Games 2018: India Wins 72 Medals; China Tops with 319

  • The 2018 Asian Para Games was held from 6 to 13 October 2018 in Indonesia’s capital city of Jakarta.
  • Mascot: Momo was the mascot of the 2018 Asian Para Games.

  • Slogan/ Motto: “The Inspiring Spirit and Energy of Asia”
  • Since 2010, the Asian Para Games are usually held after every Asian Games in the same host country. It was the first time Indonesia hosted both the games in parallel.
  • The opening ceremony was held at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, while the closing ceremony was held at Gelora Bung Karno Madya Stadium.
  • While Chess was introduced for the first time in the Asian Para Games’ program, rowing, sailing, 5 and 7-a-side football, Wheelchair Dance Sport and wheelchair rugby were removed from the games.
  • China led the medal tally for the third consecutive time with 319 medals (172 gold, 88 silver and 59 bronze).
  • India recorded its best-ever showing in the Asian Para Games by bagging 72 medals, including 15 Gold, 24 Silver and 33 Bronze and standing at 9th spot in the table.
  • Rio Paralympic gold medallist Thangvellu Mariyappan was the flag-bearer of the Indian contingent.
