- Also for the first time, eSports (a form of competition using video games) and canoe polo will be contested as demonstration sports. eSports is expected to be a medal event at the 2022 Asian Games.

- Japanese swimmer Rikako Ikee has won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award in the 2018 Asian Games after earning six gold medals and two silver medals in women’s swimming.
- India ended their Asian Games 2018 campaign with the highest medal tally at the tournament ever, with a total of 69 medals. The previous best was 65 medals in in 2010.
