Army Constructs 260 feet ‘Maitri Bridge’ on Indus river to link Villages in Leh

  • War veterans of Ladakh region, led by 89 year old Naik Phunchok Angdus (Retd), dedicated a cable suspension bridge named ‘Maitri Bridge’ to the nation to commemorate 20 years of Kargil Vijay Diwas.
  • The bridge is constructed over the Indus river at Choglamsar in Leh and is the longest suspension bridge over the Indus river.
  • The 260 feet Maitri Bridge will link the Choglamsar, Stok and Chuchot villages (largest villages of Ladakh region) to Leh to ease the life of locals.
  • The bridge has been constructed by the Combat Engineers (Sahas aur Yogyata Regiment) of the Fire & Fury Corps of the Indian Army in a record time of 40 days
