Amit Shah to head the panel on Air India sale

  • The Air India Specific Alternative Mechanism (AISAM) panel that was constituted in June 2017 for disinvestment in Air India has been reconstituted. Now Amit Shah will head the panel.

  • Earlier the panel had 5 members with the then Finance Minister Arun Jaitley as its head. Now there are 4 members Amit Shah (Head), Nirmala Sitharaman, Piyush Goyal and  Hardeep Singh Puri.  Nitin Gadkari has been dropped from the panel.

  • In its first attempt, the Central Government had invited bids from investors in 2018 to buy out the government’s 76 percent stake in Air India. However, this failed as the investors did not put in their bids. Hence the committee has been reconstituted to start the bidding process from a new point.
