Agriculture Minister Parshottam Rupala launches Ayushman Sahakar scheme of NCDC to fund co-operative healthcare facilities

  • The Union Agriculture Minister of State, Sh. Parshottam Rupala launched AYUSHMAN SAHAKAR scheme on 19 October 2020, to involve co-operatives in creating healthcare infrastructure in the country.
  • The unique scheme has been formulated by the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC). (The NCDC was set up under the Ministry of Agriculture in 1963, for promotion and development of cooperatives)..
  • The NCDC will extend loans to the tune of Rs.10,000 crore to prospective cooperatives to set up healthcare facilities.
  • Additionally, the scheme would provides interest subvention of one percent to women majority cooperatives.
  • The main motive of Ayushman Sahakar is to bring transformation in rural areas, to revolutionize comprehensive health care services, through co-operatives, due to their strong presence in rural areas.
  • Ayushman Sahakar would specifically cover establishment, modernization, expansion, repairs, renovation of hospital and healthcare and education infrastructure.
