7th Economic Census Completely Digital; Expected to End by March 2020

The 7th Economic Census is being conducted across the country.
West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat are the only states were the census is yet to start.
The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has tied up with CSC e-Governance Service for the 7th Economic Census.
It is expected to be completed by March 2020.
For the first time, the entire Census is being conducted using digital platform, using an application to ensure high accuracy and data security.
It will also reduce the time for survey to 6 months from 2 years earlier.
The use of digital medium is also expected to reduce the frequency of census to every two years from every 10 years at present.
Started in 1977, only six economic censuses have been done so far due to massive work involving in-depth survey and data compilation.
