36th ASEAN Summit held virtually in under the Chairmanship of Vietnam

  • The 36th edition of the biannual ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Summit was held via video conferencing on 26 June 2020 Hanaoi, Vietnam, under the Chairmanship of Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
  • The theme of the Summit  was “Cohesive and Responsive ASEAN”.
  • The main focus of the summit was on the COVID-19 epidemic response, post-pandemic recovery and further cooperation with partners.
  • The 36th ASEAN summit was scheduled to be held in April 2020 in central Vietnam”s Da Nang, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • The ASEAN bloc comprises of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
  • Its headquarter is based in Jakarta, Indonesia.
