2018 APEC Summit Held in Papua New Guinea

  • The 2018 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit was held in Papua New Guinea on November 17-18, 2018. It was the first time Papua New Guinea hosted the APEC meetings.
  • Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, Peter O’Neill hosted the meet attended by all the 21 member nations.
  • For the first time in the summit’s history, regional leaders failed to agree on a final communique because of repeated clash between US and China over the language on trade in the final document.
  • The summit closed without a joint statement from the leaders.
