Eminent Gandhian Activist Jharna Dhara Chowdhury Passes Away
- Eminent social activist, Jharna Dhara Chowdhury, who dedicated her life to non-violence and communal harmony ideologies preached by Mahatma Gandhi, passed away. She was 81.
- Born in Lakshmipur of Bangladesh, Jharna fled to Assam with her family in 1946 due to communal riots.
- Because of her efforts, she received numerous awards including the Ekushey Padak in 2005 and Padmashree in 2013, the highest civilian honours in Bangladesh and India respectively.
