PM Modi Inaugurates Kundli-Manesar Section of Western Peripheral Expressway and Ballabgarh-Mujesar Metro Link In Haryana

  • The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Kundli-Manesar Section of the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP)Western Peripheral Expressway, at Sultanpur, Gurugram,Haryana on November 19, 2018.
  • He also inaugurated the Ballabgarh-Mujesar Metro Link and laid the foundation stone of Shri Vishwakarma Skill University.
  • The 136-kilometre long six-lane Western Peripheral Expressway also known as KMP expressway has been built at a cost of over Rs 6400 crore and is expected to divert more than 50 thousand heavy vehicles away from Delhi.  

Government of India to Commemorate 550th Birth Anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Devji Worldwide

  • The Government of India has decided to commemorate 550th Birth Anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji from November 2018 at national as well as international level.
  • The Year long Celebration will start from November 23, 2018.
  • It will include a number of commemorative as well as constructive activities will be taken up during the commemoration period. 

Suresh Prabhu launches AirSewa 2.0 – Chennai Airport awarded for hundred percent grievance redressal

  • Suresh Prabhu launched the upgraded version of AirSewa 2.0 web portal and mobile app in New Delhi.
  • AirSewa enables travellers to submit grievances and seek information of air travel in India. 
  • Chennai Airport got the champion award for hundred percent timely closure of grievances in one year.

Kerala Launches New Open Online Learning Programme ‘KOOL’

  • The Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) has introduced an Online Open Learning training platform named ‘KOOL’ to train teachers, students, and the general public.
  • The need to launch KOOL was felt taking into consideration the schools in the state which are going Hi-Tech and requires teachers and students to be trained on different domains simultaneously.
  • KOOL is designed in a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) model. It is a major step by the State of Kerala to become India’s first complete digital state in Education.

Highlights of meeting between RBI and Central Government

  • Following are the highlights of the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Central Board meeting held on November 19, 2018:
  • The Board decided to constitute an expert committee to examine the Economic Capital Framework (ECF), the membership and terms of reference of which will be jointly determined by the Government of India and the RBI.
  • The Board also advised that the RBI should consider a scheme for restructuring of stressed standard assets of MSME borrowers with aggregate credit facilities of up to ₹ 250 million
  • CRAR retained at 9%.
  • The transition period for implementing the last tranche of 0.625% under the Capital Conservation Buffer (CCB) has been extended by 1 year to March 31, 2020.

BSE to cut ties with S&P Dow Jones; develop own in-house indices

  • Bombay Stock Exchange has decided to snap ties with S&P Dow Jones, which manages and operates benchmark Sensex, and plans to develop indices through its own in-house development team. 
  • BSE will not renew its agreement with S&P Dow Jones Indices LLC which expires on December 31, 2018 and it is looking to develop indices through its own team.

NSE launches mobile App – NSE goBID for retail investors to buy government securities.

  • Sebi chairman Ajay Tyagi launched a mobile application and web-based platform of NSE named as NSE goBID for retail investors to buy government securities.
  • The platform will allow retail investors to invest in treasury bills (T-Bills) of 91 days, 182 days and 364 days and various government bonds from one year to almost 40 years.
  • RBI conducts auction of G-sec and T-bills on a weekly basis where 5 per cent of the notified amount is allotted for eligible investors under the scheme for non-competitive bidding facility.

Jalaj Srivastava appointed chairman of IWAI

  • Jalaj Srivastava, a 1984 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, has been appointed the chairman of the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI).
  • The IWAI comes under the Union Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways.

Sanjay Kumar Mishra Appointed As Full-Time Director Of Enforcement Directorate

  • Sanjay Kumar Mishra has been appointed as the full-time Director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
  • Earlier in October Sanjay Kumar Mishra was appointed as the principal special director in the central probe agency on October 27 and was entrusted with the “additional” charge of ED director for three months. Now he has been appointed as the full time Director.

Silver Jubilee Commemoration Ceremony of SIMBEX- 2018 Held in Visakhapatnam

  • The Silver Jubilee Commemoration Ceremony to mark the 25th edition of SIMBEX, “Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise” was held onboard INS Sahyadri at Visakhapatnam on 19 November 18.
  • The 25th edition of SIMBEX is the largest ever participation by the Singapore Navy in any bilateral exercise and SIMBEX is the longest un-interrupted bilateral maritime exercise that India has had with any navy.  
  • To mark the historic occasion and as a symbol of growing trust and comfort levels between the two navies, a special Logo was also released. The occasion was also utilised to simultaneous release Special Postal Cover and Singaporean Postage Stamp on SIMBEX.

Alexander Zverev beats Novak Djokovic to win the ATP Finals championship

  • Alexander Zverev (Germany) defeated World No. 1 Novak Djokovic (Serbia) 6-4, 6-3 here to win the ATP Finals championship held in London, UK.
  • The ATP Finals is the second highest tier of annual men’s tennis tournament after the four Grand Slam tournaments.

Ankita-Karman clinch WTA Taipei Open

  • Indian Tennis players Ankita Raina and Karman Kaur Thandi won the womens double at the WTA Taipei Open defeating Russia’s Olga Doroshina and Natela Dzalamidze.

World Toilet Day -19 November – India gets its first sewer cleaning machine

  • 19 November – World Toilet Day
  • Theme 2018: When Nature Calls
  • Sulabh International  introduced India’s first “sewer cleaning machine” on the occasion of World Toilet Day in New Delhi. This will reduce sewer deaths and put an end to the unsafe practice of manual scavenging. It costs Rs 43 lakh.

India Observes Qaumi Ekta Week

  • Qaumi Ekta Week (National Integration Week) will be observed across the country from November 19 to November 25, 2018 to foster and reinforce the spirit of communal harmony and National Integration.
  • The National Foundation for Communal Harmony (NFCH), an autonomous organisation with the Ministry of Home Affairs, organises Communal Harmony Campaign coinciding with the Qaumi Ekta Week and observes the Communal Harmony Flag Day on 25th November.

Asia’s 1st Woman Neurosurgeon, T.S. Kanaka Passes Away at 86

  • Asia’s first woman neurosurgeon, T.S. Kanaka, died in Chennai after a brief illness. She was 86.
  • She was also the third woman neurosurgeon in the whole world.
