Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme 2018-19 (Series V) to have Issue price Rs. 3,214 per gram

  • Government has announced that Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme 2018-19 – Series V will be opened for subscription for the period from January 14, 2019 to January 18, 2019.
  • The Issue Price of the Bond during this subscription period shall be Rs. 3,214 per gram with the Settlement Date of January 22, 2019.
  • discount of Rs. 50 (Rupees Fifty only) per gram from the issue price to those investors who apply online and the payment is made through digital mode. (i.e Rs. 3,164 per gram)

Rs 350 Commemorative Coin on Guru Gobind Singh Released by PM Modi

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi released a commemorative coin of Rs. 350 in New Delhi on January 13, 2019 to mark the birth anniversary celebrations of the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji. 

HC forms committee to weed out invasive plant species from Western Ghats- Head- Cherukuri Raghavendra Babu

  • The Madras High Court has set up an expert committee to find a solution to root out invasive species of plants from the Western Ghats while observing that such species were the second largest cause of biodiversity loss in the world.
  • The committee shall be headed by Cherukuri Raghavendra Babu, the chairman of the expert committee on invasive species in Chennai National Biodiversity Authority.

West Bengal Honours Filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta with Lifetime Achievement Award

  • National award-winning prominent Bengali filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the West Bengal Film Journalists Association (WBFJA) on January 13 during the third edition of the ‘Cinemar Samabartan’ ceremony.
  • The award is in the name of the late Satyajit Ray.
  • Dasgupta is also an eminent poet and has won several awards including the National Film Award

Bangladesh, ADB sign $200 million deal for rural road network

  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Bangladeshi government have signed an agreement for $200 million in loans to improve the rural road network in Bangladesh.
  • The assistance will support the government’s Rural Connectivity Improvement Project (RCIP) to upgrade about 1,700 km of rural roads. The total cost of the project, which is due for completion in November 2023, is $285.31 million.

Former Ranji cricketer Rajesh Ghodge passes away at 47

  • Former Ranji Trophy cricketer of Goa, Rajesh Ghodge passed away during a local tournament at the Rajendra Prasad Stadium in Goa. 

1956 Olympian footballer Zulfiqar passes away

  • Former India footballer Mohammed Zulfiqaruddin who was the part of 1956 Olympics in Melbourne passed away. He was 83. 
  • Zulfiqaruddin also represented India in the 1958 Tokyo Asian Games and the Merdeka Cup in Malaysia. He was the captain of Andhra Pradesh in the Santosh Trophy from 1955 to 1967.
