Kassym-Jomart Tokayev Elected as President of Kazakhstan
- Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has been elected as the second President of Kazakhstan after winning June 9 presidential election with 70.96 percent of the vote (6,539,715 votes).
- He took office as the President of Kazakhstan on 20 March 2019 succeeding Nursultan Nazarbayev who resigned on 19 March 2019 after 29 years in office.
- Immediately after assuming the charge, Tokayev proposed renaming Astana, the capital city of Kazakhstan to Nur-Sultan, after his predecessor, which was approved by the Parliament of Kazakhstan.
