Tamil Nadu’s Nagapattinam District Bifurcated to Form Mayiladuthurai as 38th District

  • Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswamy has announced the formation of a new district Mayiladuthurai by bifurcating the existing district of Nagapattinam.
  • With this, the total number of districts in the state has increased to 38.
  • Till date, Tamil Nadu had 37 districts, of which five new districts were formed in 2019.
  • These are:
    1. Kallakurichi district split from Viluppuram
    2. Tenkasi district split from Tirunelveli district
    3. Chengalpattu district split from Kanchipuram district
    4. Tirupattur district split from Vellore district
    5. Ranipet district split from Vellore district

Saudi king to chair G20 video summit on coronavirus on March 26

  • Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud will chair an emergency virtual summit of G20 leaders on March 26, 2020. The meeting is titled ‘G20 Extraordinary Virtual Leaders’ Summit on COVID-19′.
  • Saudi Arabia currently holds the G20 presidency and hence is chairing the meet.
  • India is a member nation of the G20 group. The other members include Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, France, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the UK and the US.

NABARD Extends Financial Support of Rs 42,313 cr in FY’20 for rural infrastructure

  • The apex agriculture financial institution, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has provided a financial support up to Rs 42,313 crore towards building rural infrastructure in the current fiscal year 2019-20.
  • Till date, NABARD has disbursed Rs 20,869 Crore during the current year in addition to providing Rs 5,686 Crore for rural connectivity
  • In the last five years, NABARD has disbursed Rs 1.98 lakh crore towards rural development.

Sameer Aggarwal appointed as CEO of Walmart India

  • Sameer Aggarwal has been appointed as the CEO of Best Price, Walmart India. He will take charge of the role from April 01, 2020.
  • Sameer Aggarwal joined Walmart in April 2018 as Executive Vice President to look at strategy and administration.
  • He will replace Krish Iyer, who is retiring from full-time management.

Zoya Akhter honoured with IIFTC Tourism Impact Award 2020

  • Asia’s largest film tourism event, 8th India International Film Tourism Conclave (IIFTC) was held in Mumbai from 5-7 March 2020.
  • Veteran filmmaker Zoya Akhter has been honoured with IIFTC Tourism Impact Award 2020 for her outstanding contribution to the world tourism through her cinema.
  • IIFTC is Asia’s largest locations show presenting a credible platform for film commissions, tourism offices and production service companies from around the world to showcase their locations, incentives and services to the Indian film industry.

Former India footballer Abdul Latif passes away at 73

  • Former Indian football player, Abdul Latif passed away at the age of 73 years.
  • Abdul Latif played as a midfielder in the Indian football team and represented India in the 1970 Asian Games in which the team won a bronze medal.
