RBI to launch centralised portal PRAVAAH for licencing, approval applications

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has planned to launch a secured web-based centralised portal named ‘PRAVAAH’ to simplify and streamline application processes.
  • PRAVAAH stands for Platform for Regulatory Application, Validation And AutHorisation.
  • The portal will show time limits for deciding on the applications/approvals sought.
  • Currently, the application and approval processes for the same take place in varied on-line and off-line modes.
  • The new system will bring greater efficiencies into regulatory processes and facilitate ease of doing business for the regulated entities of RBI.
  • The facility will be extended to all types of applications made to RBI across all functions.

RBI imposes Rs 55 lakh penalty on Indian Bank for KYC non-compliance

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed a fine of Rs 55 lakh on Indian Bank on April 06, 2023, for non-compliance with certain provisions of the Reserve Bank of India (Know Your Customer) Directions, 2016.
  • RBI has imposed this penalty in the exercise of powers vested in RBI under the provisions of section 47 A (1) (c) read with sections 46 (4) (i) and 51 (1) of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.

India becomes world’s first country to develop its own system for estimating TB cases

  • India has become the first country in the world to develop a country-level mathematical model to estimate the prevalence of tuberculosis (TB) cases in India.
  • Using this model, the data regarding TB incidence and mortality estimate for India will be available by March every year.
  • The new model has been created based on the natural history of the disease, individual cases of infection, healthcare-seeking behaviour, missed or correct diagnosis, treatment coverage, and outcome.

Karnataka tops India Justice Report 2022 for delivering justice to people

  • Karnataka is the top ranking state in the third edition of the India Justice Report – 2022, which judges states in terms of delivery of justice to its people, based on structural and financial capacity.
  • Karnataka came first among 18 large and mid -sized states (where population is over one crore each).
  • Tamil Nadu and Telangana were second and third respectively in the same category.
  • Among the 7 small states (where the population is less than one crore each), Sikkim has topped the list followed by Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura.
  • As per the report, except for Delhi and Chandigarh, no other state/UT spends more than 1% of its total annual expenditure on the judiciary.
  • About India Justice Report (IJR)
    • The India Justice Report (IJR) is launched by Tata Trusts in collaboration with Centre for Social Justice, Common Cause, Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative, DAKSH, TISS–Prayas, Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy and How India Lives
    • The states are ranked is based on publicly available data of different government entities on the four pillars of justice delivery which are police, judiciary, prisons and legal aid.
    • The first edition of IJR was released in 2019.

PM Modi inaugurates Diamond Jubilee Celebrations of CBI in New Delhi

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in New Delhi.
  • The CBI was established 0n 1st April 1963, by a resolution of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
  • The organization has successfully completed a journey of 60 years as the premier investigating agency of the country. 
  • To mark the occasion, PM Modi released a Postage Stamp and  Commemorative Coin of CBI and also launched the Twitter handle of CBI.

Andaman & Nicobar Command (ANC) Conducts Large Scale Joint Military Exercise ‘KAVACH’

  • The Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) successfully carried out a large scale joint-military exercises, EX-KAVACH on April 06, 2023.
  • The ANC is the first integrated theatre command in India. Its headquarter is in Port Blair.
  • The joint-services EX-KAVACH aimed to fine-tune the joint-warfighting capabilities and operational synergy among the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard
  • The drill involved multi-domain exercises including amphibious landing, air-landed ops, heliborne ops & rapid insertion of Special Forces.
  • EX-KAVACH aimed at validating India’s capabilities to safeguard the territorial integrity of its island territories.

India- US Air Force to hold Exercise ‘Cope India’ in West Bengal with Japan as observer

  • The Indian Air Force and the US Air Force will conduct the bilateral air exercise ‘Cope India’ from April 10 to 21, 2023 at the air force base in Kalaikunda, West Bengal.
  • It is the 5th edition of the Exercise Cope India.
  • Japan will participate in the air exercise as the observer nation.
  • The Indian Air Force will participate in the exercise with its frontline fighters aircraft SU-30MKI, Rafale and the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) among other elements.
  • The last edition of Exercise Cope India was held between IAF and USAF in December 2018 in West  Bengal.
International

North Korea tests nuclear-capable underwater attack drone ‘Haeil-2’

  • North Korea recently conducted a nuclear-capable underwater attack drone test to demonstrate its military capabilities.
  • The underwater nuclear attack drone named “Haeil-2” was tested between April 4 and April 7, in Kajin Port, Kumya Country, South Hamgyong Province.
  • Haeil-2 is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead.
  • The drone covered an underwater distance of 1000 km (621.37 miles) in 71 hours and 6 minutes. However after this the warhead was detonated underwater.
Appointment

Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo takes charge as NRAI President

  • The senior vice-president Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo has been roped in as the President of National Rifle Association of India (NRAI).
  • He replaces ‘incumbent’ Raninder Singh.
  • AS per the directives of the Ministry of Sports in National Sports Code, any heads of national sports federations (NSFs) cannot hold office for more than 12 years.
  • Raninder had completed 12 years as president, from December 29, 2010 to Dec 29, 2022.

Sudha Shivkumar appointed as 40th President of FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO)

  • Chennai-based Sudha Shivkumar has been appointed as the 40th President of Ficci Ladies Organisation (FLO). She is a lawyer and investment banker by profession.
  • She replaces Jayanti Dalmia.
  • Sudha had been the Chairperson of FLO Chennai Chapter in 2016-17.
  • FLO is the oldest women-led and  women-centric business chamber of Southeast Asia.
