Mukesh Ambani is richest Indian as well as Asian; ranks 9th globally: Forbes Billionaire 2023 List

  • The Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani has been ranked as the richest man in India, as per the Forbes Billionaire 2023 list, released on April 04, 2023.
  • Globally, Mr Ambani is ranked as 9th richest person, in Forbes’ billionaire 2023 list, with a net worth of $83.4 billion as of March 10, 2023.
  • In the latest list, Ambani has also regained his position as the Asia’s richest person. The list has also recognised him as the world’s wealthiest sports owner.

    • Bernard Arnault, the head of luxury goods giant LVMH, is the richest person in the world as per the Forbes Billionaire 2023 list. He has topped the list for the first time.

Credit Guarantee Scheme revamped-Ceiling limit enhanced to Rs 5 cr; annual guarantee fees reduced to 0.37%

  • The Government of India has further revamped the Credit Guarantee Scheme to increase the flow of credit to MSEs and to strengthen the MSE Sector. 
  • In the revamped scheme, the annual guarantee fees structure have been reduced to 0.37 percent.
  • The ceiling for guarantees coverage has been enhanced from Rs 2 crore to Rs 5 crore.
  • The initiative is a part of the government’s efforts to strengthen the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector.

Government sets up 14-member committee to look into stalled real estate projects; Head – Amitabh Kant

  • The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has set up a 14-member committee to look into issues related to completing stalled housing projects, and propose a future course of action to ensure that buyers receive their homes.
  • The committee will be headed by Amitabh Kant, former CEO of Niti Aayog and India’s G20 Sherpa. It will comprise of top central and state government officials.
  • The panel will suggest ways to complete and hand over the projects to homebuyers in a “time-bound manner.
  • The committee shall submit its report within six months from the date of its first meeting.

PhonePe launches dedicated hyper-local ecommerce app ‘Pincode’

  • Walmart-owned fintech company PhonePe has launched a new consumer application named ‘Pincode’, which is powered by the government’s Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) network.
  • The service is currently live only in Bangalore, and will be launched in other cities soon.
  • The app aims to promote local shopkeepers and sellers by digitally connecting consumers with all the neighbourhood stores that they usually buy from offline. 
  • Pincode will launch in six major categories including grocery, food, pharma, electronics, home decor and fashion.
  • Customers can search for stores by browsing for category and can have multiple carts at the same time with one active cart per store. Buyers can also save multiple carts.

Skyroot successfully tests 3D-printed cryogenic rocket engine

  • Hyderabad-based space tech startup Skyroot Aerospace successfully test fired an advanced fully 3D-printed cryogenic rocket engine `Dhawan-II’ on April 04, 2023.
  • Skyroot Aerospace is India’s first private rocket builder.
  • The endurance test of ‘Dhawan-II’ was carried out at Solar Industries propulsion test facility in Nagpur, Maharashtra. It lasted for a long duration of almost 200 seconds.
  • The ‘Dhawan-II’ Cryogenic engine will power the upper stage of Vikram-2.

NADA sanctions 4 year ban on Weightlifter Sanjita Chanu for failing dope test

  • Indian weightlifter and two-time Commonwealth Games champion, Sanjita Chanu has been handed a four-year ban by the National Anti Doping Agency (NADA)’ for failing a dope test.
  • The 29-year-old Athlete has violated Article 2.1 & 2.2 of the Nada ADR, 2021, she is hereby sanctioned with an ineligibility of four (04) years as per Article 10.2.1 of the NADA ADR, 2021.
  • Her ban will be considered from November 12, 2022.
  • She tested positive for an anabolic steroid  — Drostanolone Metabolite  — that features in the World Anti-doping Agency’s (WADA) prohibited list.

Retired British boxer Amir Khan gets two-year ban for doping

  • The UK Anti-Doping agency (UKAD) has handed a two-year ban on former light-welterweight world champion Amir Khan for testing positive for a prohibited substance.
  • British boxer Amir Khan has been banned from all sports.
  • Khan’s ban will be effective from April 6, 2022 to April 5, 2024.
  • He has tested positive for anabolic agent ostarine, a drug present on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s prohibited list.

National Maritime Day 2023 : 5 April

  • In India, the National Maritime Day is observed on 5 April, since 1964.
  • The 2023 marks 60th edition of the annual celebrations.
  • This day commemorates the sailing of the first Indian commercial vessel, SS Loyalty. The ship sailed from Mumbai to London.
  • On this day in 1919, navigation history was created when SS Loyalty, the first ship of The Scindia Steam Navigation Company Ltd., traveled from Mumbai to the United Kingdom, a crucial step for India shipping history when sea routes were restricted and controlled by the British.

United Nations International Day of Conscience 2023: 05 April

  • The United Nations General Assembly has designated 5 April to be observed as an International Day of Conscience every year, to commemorate the importance of human conscience.
  • The resolution was adopted on on 31 July 2019 by the UN General Assembly and first celebration was held on April 5, 2020.
  • The year 2023 marks the 4th edition of the celebrations.
  • This day aims to remind people to self-reflect, follow their conscience, and do the right things.

  • The legendary WWE wrestler Bushwhacker Butch has passed away. He was 78.
  • The real name of the former New Zealand pro wrestler was Robert Miller.
  • Bushwhacker Butch was his ring name
  • In 2015, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
