Telangana-based NGO ‘Deccan Development Society’ wins UN’s Equator Prize

  • A group of 6 women of the Telangana based NGO named Deccan Development Society (DDS) have bagged the United Nation’s Equator Prize for 2019 for their outstanding effort for nature-based solution to climate change and sustainable development.
  • The six women farmers are: Maisanagari Ratnamma, Begari Tuljamma, Chilkapalli Ansuyamma, Nagwar Sunandamma, Yerrolla Kanakamma, and Nadimidoddi Anjamma.
  • The will receive the award in New York during the 74th United Nations General Assembly on 24 September 2019.
  • A total of 847 nominations were received by the UN from 127 countries, of which only 22 were given the prestigious award in 2019 which showcase innovative, nature-based solutions for tackling climate change, environment, and poverty challenges.
