Telangana-based NGO ‘Deccan Development Society’ wins UN’s Equator Prize
A group of 6 women of the Telangana based NGO named Deccan Development Society (DDS) have bagged the United Nation’s Equator Prize for 2019 for their outstanding effort for nature-based solution to climate change and sustainable development.
The six women farmers are: Maisanagari Ratnamma, Begari Tuljamma, Chilkapalli Ansuyamma, Nagwar Sunandamma, Yerrolla Kanakamma, and Nadimidoddi Anjamma.
The will receive the award in New York during the 74th United Nations General Assembly on 24 September 2019.
A total of 847 nominations were received by the UN from 127 countries, of which only 22 were given the prestigious award in 2019 which showcase innovative, nature-based solutions for tackling climate change, environment, and poverty challenges.
