  • The Government of India has further given three-month extension to Cabinet Secretary Pradeep Kumar Sinha, whose four year tenure will be completed on June 12, 2019.
  • He was appointed as Cabinet Secretary in June 2015 with extensions in 2017 and 2018. Sinha can now serve in the post till September 12.
  • With this, he becomes the longest-serving cabinet secretary in the country’s history.

  • However, government has amended the existing All India Services (Death-Cum-Retirement-Benefits) Rules, 1958, for appointment of Cabinet Secretary, stating that the Central Government may, if it considers necessary in public interest to do so, give an extension in service for a further period, not exceeding three months, beyond the period of four years to the Cabinet Secretary.
