NABARD’s Chairman G.R. Chintala takes charge as Chairman of APRACA
- G.R. Chintala, the Chairman of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), has been sworn in as the new Chairman of APRACA (Asia Pacific Rural and Agricultural Credit Association).
- Chintala has taken over from DPK Gunasekera, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Bank of Ceylon.
About Asia Pacific Rural and Agricultural Credit Association (APRACA)
- APRACA, was established in 1977, by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to promote the development of rural finance in Asia Pacific.
- APRACA is a non- government international organization composed mainly of central banks, agricultural banks, development banks, commercial banks, apex organizations and federations of financial institutions, rural development institutions, institutes and non-government institutions, representing 21 countries in the Asia-Pacific region, involved directly in agricultural credit and rural development.
- Its headquarters is in Bangkok, Thailand.
- Objective: to alleviate poverty in the Asia Pacific Region through rural and agricultural finance by facilitating cooperation as well as exchange of information and expertise among its member institutions.
