MP tops country with 526 tigers as per All India Tiger Estimation – 2018
- PM Modi has released the All India Tiger Estimation – 2018 that estimates the population of tigers in India. The major points indicated in the report are:
- The count of tigers in India has risen to 2967, in 2018. The number of tigers in 2014 was 2226, in 2010 was 1706 and in 2006 was 1411.
- Madhya Pradesh has the highest number of tigers with 526, followed by Karnatak at 524.
- The data was collected using an Android-based application- M-STrIPES ( Monitoring system for Tigers’ Intensive Protection and Ecological Status).
- The Prime Minister also released report of the 4th cycle of the Management Effectiveness Evaluation of Tiger Reserves (MEETR) with Pench Tiger Reserve, Madhya Pradesh scoring the highest and Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve, Tamil Nadu showing the highest increment in management since the last cycle for which the latter was awarded.
San Francisco Bay Area tops Women Entrepreneur Cities Index 2019; Bengaluru top Indian city
- Dell has released the Women Entrepreneur Cities Index 2019 in which San Francisco Bay Area has topped.
- Singapore is the top Asian city at 21st rank. Bengaluru ranked at 43 is top Indian city followed by Delhi at 50.
- The ranking measures a city’s ability to attract and support high potential women entrepreneurs.
President Kovind becomes first Indian head of state to visit Benin
- President Ram Nath Kovind on his three nations’ tour Benin, The Gambia and Guinea. He has reached Benin and has become the first Indian head of state to Benin.
- The main points to remember are: Benin Capital- Porto-Novo; Benin Currency- CFA Franc; Benin President- Patrice Talon
ICC officially launches World Test Championship
- International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially launched the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC).
- The World Test Championship will be held with top 9 test teams playing against each other over the next 2 years starting from August 01, 2019. For this 71 Test matches will be played across 27 series.
- After this, the two top teams will play the finals for World Test Championship (WTC) in June 2021 in the UK.
- The top nine teams that will play the World Test Championship are Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the West Indies. Each series counts for 120 points, distributed over the number of matches in a series.
BRICS Foreign Affairs Ministers Meet held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- The meeting of the BRICS Ministers of Foreign Affairs 2019 was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. BRICS consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
- The Ministers agreed to further deepen BRICS three-pillar-driven cooperation in the areas of economy, peace and security and people-to-people exchanges.
- India was represented by Shri VK Singh the Union Minister of Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
Bandhan Bank appoints Siddhartha Sanyal as chief economist
- Siddhartha Sanyal has been appointed as the chief economist at Bandhan Bank.

VK Johri Appointed as New Director General of BSF
- IPS officer VK Johri has been appointed as the next Director General (DG) of the Border Security Force (BSF).
- Presently he is the Special Secretary in the external intelligence agency RAW. He will take over as the DG of BSF from August 31, 2019 from incumbent Rajni Kanti Mishra as Mishra will retire on that day.

Indian Federation of Sports Gaming appoints Justice AK Sikri as ombudsman
- Justice (retired) A K Sikri has been appointed as the ombudsman and ethics officer of Indian Federation of Sports Gaming (IFSG).
- Indian Federation of Sports Gaming (IFSG) is India’s first self-regulatory industry body for the online fantasy sports gaming sector.
Maharashtra Police launches AMBIS for crime detection
- Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has launched the Automated Multi-modal Biometric Identification System (AMBIS) which is a special digitized policing system to identify and track down criminals.
- Under AMBIS, a digital database of criminals consisting of their fingerprints, irises, palms and facial features will be prepared, which will help to track a criminal having a single criminal record.
- The system is said to be first-of-its-kind in the country and Maharashtra.
CISCO partners Google for ‘gStation’ to roll out free, high-speed WiFi zones in India
- Networking company CISCO has partnered with Google for its ‘gStation’ project that provides access to free and high-speed WiFi at public locations across the country.
- Under the partnership, Cisco is providing the network infrastructure and about 25 locations already live in Benagluru and another 200 locations will go live in the next 2-3 months in the city.
- Google Station is currently at close to 1,000 locations in India and has over eight million monthly active users across India.
Ellyse Perry become first cricketer to reach 1000 runs, 100 wickets in T20Is
- Australia all-rounder cricketer Ellyse Perry has become the first cricketer of either gender to reach the rare milestone of scoring 1000 runs and taking 100 wickets in the T20 format.
