Vidisha Baliyan Becomes First Indian To Win Miss Deaf World Title

  • Vidisha Baliyan has won the Miss Deaf World 2019 beauty pageant. She is the first Indian to win this title.
  • She is from Muzzafarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. This year the event was held in South Africa.

Max Verstappen wins the German Grand Prix 2019

  • Max Verstappen wins the German Grand Prix 2019. He is a Belgian-Dutch who drives for Red Bull.
  • This is his second win in this season after Austria Grand Prix.
  • Sebastian Vettel was on the second spot while Daniil Kvyat was on third.

IBBI Sets 1 Year Deadline for Completion of Liquidation Process, 90 Days for Compromise by Stakeholders

  • The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) has announced that it has made the liquidation process a time-bound affair. Now the process of liquidation must be finished within one year of its commencement.
  • The new regulations also say that a compromise between the stakeholders must happen within 90 days of the liquidation order.
  • For these changes, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (Insolvency Resolution Process for Corporate Persons) (Amendment) Regulations, 2019 and the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (Liquidation Process) (Amendment) Regulations, 2019 have been notified. 

Meryl Streep to receive inaugural TIFF Tribute acting award

  • Meryl Streep will be the first recipient of the TIFF Tribute Actor Award at the Toronto International Film Festival. She is an American actress.
  • The event will take place on September 9 at the Fairmont Royal York, during the 44th Toronto International Film Festival.
  • Streep is the most nominated actor in the history of Oscar Award (21 times) and has won the Oscar three times.

5th Dharma-Dhamma conference held in Bihar

  • The fifth international Dharma-Dhamma conference was held in Rajgir, Bihar on July 27 and 28, 2019. Around 200 delegates from 15 countries participated in the event.
  • Shri Kiren Rijiju inaugurated the event in the presence of Sri Lanka’s Home Minister Gamini Jaiwickrama Perera, Bhutan’s Home and Culture Minister Lyonpo Sherub Gyeltshen, senior BJP leader Ram Madhav and Juna Akhada’s Awadheshananda Giri Ji Maharaj.
  • The main aim of this conference was to address people about the terror, violence and global warming prevalent in the world.

Mary Kom wins gold medal at President’s Cup

  • Indian Boxer, Mary Kom defeated Australian April Franks 5-0 to win the Gold Medal at the 23rd President’s Cup.
  • The final was held at Labuan Bajo, Indonesia. She won in 51kg category.

Sudarsan Pattnaik wins People’s Choice Prize at Boston International Sand Art Championship

  • Indian sand artist Sudarshan Pattnaik has won the People’s Choice Prize at USA at the Boston International Sand Art Championship.
  • In an event in which a total of 15 sculptors participated in the competition, Pattnaik sculpted his sand art based on the global issue of plastic pollution with a message inscribed “Save our Ocean”.

India boxers win 8 medals at Thailand Open; Ashish Kumar wins Gold

  • Indian Boxers have finished with 8 medals at the Thailand Open which include 1 Gold, 4 Silver and 3 Bronze.
  • Ashish Kumar (75 kg) has won the Gold Medal for India. He had defeated Korea’s Kim Jinjae 5-0. Other Indian winners are:
  • Silver: Nikhat Zareen (51kg), Deepak (49kg), Mohammed Hussamuddin (56kg), and Brijesh Yadav (81kg).
  • Bronze: Manju Rani (48kg), Ashish (69kg) and Bhagyabati Kachari (75kg)

Book titled ‘New-Age Technology and Industrial Revolution 4.0’ authored by Narendra Jadhav released

  • Vice President Venkaiah Naidu has released a book titled ‘New-Age Technology and Industrial Revolution 4.0’. The book is authored by Rajya Sabha Member, Narendra Jadhav.
  • This book examines and elaborates on various dimensions of the so-called Industrial Revolution 4.0.

Russi Taylor, voice of Minnie Mouse, passes away

  • Veteran actor Russi Taylor who gave her voice for famous Disney Cartoon Character Minnie Mouse for more than 30 years, has passed away at the age of 75. She is from America.
  • Russi had started voicing Minnie in 1986. She has also worked in films like Who Framed Roger Rabbit”, “Runaway Brain”, “Get a Horse!”, and “Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers”.

Former Union Minister and senior leader of Congress Party, S. Jaipal Reddy passed away at the age of 77 years.

World Hepatitis Day: 28 July

  • Every year World Hepatitis Day is observed on 28 July. It aims to raise global awareness of hepatitis.
  • The day 28 July was chosen for World Hepatitis Day because it is the birthday of Nobel-prize winning scientist Dr Baruch Blumberg, who discovered hepatitis B virus (HBV). He also developed a diagnostic test and vaccine for the virus.
