NITI Aayog Organises Fin Tech 2019 Conclave in New Delhi

  • NITI Aayog organised a day-long FinTech Conclave at Dr. Ambedkar International Center in New Delhi on 25 March, 2019.
  • The Conclave was inaugurated by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das.
  • Representatives from various financial space such as central ministries, regulators, bankers, startups, service providers and entrepreneurs attended the conclave
  • The objective of the conclave was to shape India’s continued dominance in FinTech, suggest future strategy and policy efforts and deliberate steps for comprehensive financial inclusion.

Indian Air Force Inducts First Four Heavy-Lift Chinook Helipcopters in Chandigarh

  • Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa formally inducted the first batch of the four CH-47 Chinook choppers in the Indian Air Force at Chandigarh’s Air Force Station 12 Wing on March 25, 2019.
  • The second batch of Chinooks will be stationed in Assam’s Dinjan.
  • India bought 15 CH-47F (I) Chinook helicopters in September 2015 from Boeing (United States) at a cost of $1.5 billion.
  • The entire fleet of 15 Chinooks is expected to be inducted in the air force by March 2020.
  • These choppers will be used for various military purposes such as deploying of troops and machinery at high-altitude locations along the India-Pakistan border to support country’s current and future security goals.

India Ranks 76th on WEF’s Global Energy Transition Index; Top – Sweden

  • India has ranked 76th in the 2019 edition of the Global Energy Transition Index, compiled by Geneva-based World Economic Forum (WEF).
  • The annual list has ranked 115 economies on the basis of how well they are able to balance energy security and access with environmental sustainability and affordability.
  • Sweden has topped the annual list and is followed by Switzerland and Norway respectively.

Samsung tops India’s Most Consumer-Focused Brands 2019; HDFC Top Bank

  • Samsung is the top consumer-focused brand in India as per the study, titled ‘India’s Most Consumer-Focused Brands 2019’ by TRA.
  • Samsung, Tata Motors, Apple, Hero MotoCorp and Nike are the top five company as per the list.
  • HDFC is the top amongst Banks in the list and is at the 8th spot. While for Top PSU Bank, SBI is the leader at 12th position overall.

World’s largest e-waste recycling hub opens in Dubai

  • The world’s largest e-waste recycling plant has opened in Dubai. The cost of the recycling plant is $5 million and is 280,000 square feet in area.
  • It is located in Dubai Industrial Park and will process WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment), IT asset disposition (ITAD), refrigerant gas and specialized waste. The recycling hub has been opened by a company named Enviroserve.

Jet Airways’ Chairman Naresh Goyal resigns

  • Naresh Goyal, the founder and promoter of Jet Airway has resigned as the Chairman of the company. He has also resigned from the board of the Jet Airway along with his wife Anita.
  • Jet Airways was facing a serious financial crisis and had defaulted on loan payments and payments to its vendors, delayed salaries, grounded a majority of its planes and canceled hundreds of flights in the last few months.

‘Every Vote Counts’ Authored by Ex-CEC Navin Chawla Released

  • Former Vice President of India, Hamid Ansari launched the book titled Every Vote Counts: The Story of India’s Electionson March 23 in New Delhi.
  • The book has been authored by former Chief Election Commissioner of India Navin Chawla.

Tokyo 2020 unveils Paralympic torch

  • Paralympics in 2020 will be held in Tokyo, Japan. The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020) has announced details of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Torch Relay.
  • The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Torch Relay will take place between 13 and 25 August.

China defeats Japan to win the 2019 Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships

  • China defeated Japan 3-2 to win the 2019 Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships. This was the second edition of the tournament.
  • 11 teams including India was part of this tournament that was held in Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Hong Kong. The event was also known as the Tong Yun Kai Cup 2019.

  • He was a former journalist who was working for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
  • His body was found in the Bekaa Valley, Lebanon in 2009.

  • Larry Cohen, a popular American writer and movie director passed away at the age of 77. He was well known for his work in horror movies including works like “It’s Alive”, “Black Caesar”, and “Hell Up in Harlem”.
