RBI defers implementation of Ind AS till further notice

  • The Reserve Bank of India has deferred the implementation of Indian Accounting Standards (Ind AS) till further notice. Earlier Ind AS was to be implemented by Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs), excluding Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) till April 01, 2019.
  • The deferment has been made mainly due to two reasons: pending necessary legislative amendments to the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 and secondly due level of preparedness of many banks.

Operation Sahayata 19 – Relief & Rescue Operation by Indian Navy to Mozambique in view of Cyclone Idai

  • India has extended support to Mozambique under the Operation Sahayata 19 after the country was struck by Category -2 storm Cyclone Idai.
  • India has become one of the first international responders to the natural disaster in Mozambique.
  • The first batch of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) material including food, medicines and clothing reached Port Beira of Mozambique on March 20.

Project Saamrath launched to train 10 lakh personnel involved in the rubber sector

  • The Rubber Skill Development Council (RSDC) has launched Project Saamrath, which is aimed at skilling, upskilling and reskilling 10 lakh personnel involved in the rubber sector, by 2020.
  • The Council has joined hands with the Rubber Board in upskilling the growers. 

Karambir Singh to be new Chief of Indian

  • The Chief of Eastern Naval Command, Vice Admiral Karambir Singh has been appointed as the new Chief of the Indian Navy.
  • He will take the charge when the present Chief of Navy, Admiral Sunil Lanba retires from service on May 31, 2019.

NATHEALTH elects Sudarshan Ballal as president for 2019-20

  • Healthcare Federation of India (NATHEALTH), the healthcare industry’s apex body has appointed Sudarshan Ballal as its President for the year 2019-20.
  • He succeeds Fortis Healthcare’s Daljit Singh as the president.

AIBA President Gafur Rahimov resigns

  • President of International Boxing Federation (AIBA), Gafur Rahimov has resigned amid charges of criminal links.
  • Mohamed Moustahsane, the head of African Boxing Confederation (AFBC) will serve as interim President of AIBA.
  • AIBA Headquarters- Lausanne, Switzerland.

FIFA Imposes Lifetime Ban on Ex-Ecuador Football Chief Luis Chiriboga

  • World football governing body FIFA has imposed a lifetime ban on the former President of Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF), Luis Chiriboga, as he was found guilty of taking bribes.
  • The 72 year old had breached article 27 (bribery) of the 2018 edition of the FIFA Code of Ethics.
  • FIFA has banned him from all football-related activities at both national and international level for lifetime.
  • Chiriboga has also been fined a million swiss francs ($1.01 million).

Karnataka Minister and Congress Leader CS Shivalli Passes away at 58

  • Indian politician Channabasappa Sathyappa (CS) Shivalli, who was a member of the Indian National Congress from the state of Karnataka passed away after suffering massive heart attack. He was 58
  • Shivalli was the Minister in-charge of Municipal administration.

World Meteorological Day: March 23

  • World Meteorological Day (WMD) is celebrated every year on 23 March to commemorate the establishment of the World Meteorological Organization in 23 March 1950.
