Fitch cuts India’s GDP forecast for FY20 to 6.8%

  • Fitch rating has reduced its GDP prediction for India for Financial Year 2019-20 to 6.8% from 7.0%. The GDP Prediction for 2020-21 by Fitch is 7.1%.

CBSE launches Shiksha Vani’ app for latest updates

  • Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has launched a new podcast app ‘Shiksha Vani’ that aims to disseminate crucial information to students and parents in a timely manner.
  • A podcast is an audio file similar to a radio broadcast, that can be downloaded and listened to on a computer.
  • CBSE aims to provide up-to-date information regarding educational tools using this app so as to improve result outcomes.

Hindi writer Leeladhar Jagudi awarded with Vyas Samman 2018

  • Hindi writer Leeladhar Jagudi has been awarded with the Vyas Samman 2018 or his collection of poems “Jitne Log Utne Prem”.
  • This was the 28th edition of the award by the KK Birla Foundation.
  • The Vyas Samman was started in 1991. The award is given to an “outstanding literary work” in Hindi authored by an Indian citizen which has been published in the last decade. The award carries an amount of ₹4 lakh.

Hockey India launches its coaching programme Coaching Education Pathway

  • Hockey India has launched a programme named Hockey India Coaching Education Pathway to develop Coaches from the grassroots and enable them to meet the requirements and the ever-growing demands of International hockey.

India wins 368 medals as 2019 Abu Dhabi Special Olympics World Games concludes

  • The Special Olympics Summer Games 2019 that was held at Abu Dhabi, UAE has now concluded on March 21, 2019. Indian team has won 368 medals at the event (85 gold, 154 silver, and 129 bronze).
  • It is important to note that the medal table is not maintained at the Special Olympics Games.
  • The next Special Olympics Summer Games are set to be held in 2021 in Sweden.

India defeats Nepal to win SAFF Women’s Championship

  • Indian team defeated Nepal 3-1 to win the SAFF Women’s Championship (Football). With this Indian Women, team has won this championship for the straight 5th time.
  • South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) 2019 Women’s Championship was held in Nepal. 

Abu Dhabi to host T10 cricket league for 5 years

  • Abu Dhabi Cricket (ADC) has signed a five-year agreement with Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) and the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), for organising the T10 Cricket League at the Zayed Cricket Stadium.
  • The first match of the T10 League 2019 will be held on October 23.

Renowned Indian artist Haku Shah passed away at 85

  • Renowned Indian artist Haku Shah passed away at the age of 85 years. He was known for his themes of tribal and folk art.
  • He was popularly known as Haku bhai. He was the one who set up the first of its kind Crafts Village – Shilpgram in Udaipur in Rajasthan in the 1980s.
