Hardeep Singh Puri Inaugurates Air Traffic Flow Management – Central Command Centre in New Delhi

  • Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of State (I/c) for Civil Aviation inaugurated the Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) – Central Command Centre at Vasant Kunj, New Delhi on July 22.
  • The C-ATFM system will address the balancing of capacity against the demand to achieve optimum utilization of the major resources viz., airport, airspace and aircraft at every Indian airport where there is a capacity constraint.

India’s First Water Clinic for Elephants Opens in Mathura

  • India’s first specialised hydrotherapy treatment centre for elephants has been established on the banks of the Yamuna in Mathura, near the Wildlife SOS’ Elephant Conservation and Care Centre (ECCC).
  • The new 11-foot-deep hydrotherapy jumbo pool will provide treatment to elephants suffering from arthritis, joint pain and foot ailments using 21 high pressure jet sprays to create water pressure that massage the elephants’ feet and body and help in increasing blood circulation.
  • ECCC currently houses 20 rescued elephants and is run in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh Forest Department and the NGO Wildlife SOS.

WHO launches AWaRe tool to Combat Antimicrobial Resistance

  • The World Health Organization (WHO) is launching a new tool named AWaRe (Access, Watch and Reserve) to reduce the spread of antimicrobial resistance.
  • The AWaRe tool was developed by the WHO Essential Medicines List to contain rising resistance and make antibiotic use safer and more effective.
  • AWaRe campaign, is aimed at making decision and policymakers aware of the appropriate and effective use of antibiotics for specific infections.

UK Magazine Votes PM Modi as ‘World’s Most Powerful Leader 2019’

  • Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emerged as the ‘World’s Most Powerful Person 2019’ in the reader’s poll conducted by UK-based British Herald magazine. 
  • He beat Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump to emerge on top.
  • Now he will be featured on the cover page of the July 15 edition of the magazine.

Panel for better coordination among petrol, environment ministries formed; Head- P K Sinha

  • Central Government has formed a committee for better coordination among the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF), and the state governments with an aim to speed up hydrocarbon exploration-related clearances.
  • Cabinet Secretary P K Sinha is the head/chairman of the panel/committee.
  •  The newly formed committee will have a representative from the NITI Aayog and chief secretaries of petroleum-producing states like Assam, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Telangana and Tamil Nadu

SEBI Sets up Panel to Review Margins on Derivatives

  • The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has set up a working group, headed by National Stock Exchange (NSE) Clearing Ltd. to review the current framework of margins in the futures and options segment.
  • The panel will submit its recommendations to the Secondary Market Advisory Committee.

Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev Pens Autobiography “My Life, My Mission”

  • Yoga guru Baba Ramdev has written his autobiography named “My Life, My Mission” that provides insights into his childhood. It has been co-authored by senior journalist Uday Mahurkar.
  • The book will be published by Penguin Random House in August 2019.

Arundhati Roy’s book ‘My Seditious Heart’ to be launched soon

  • A book titled “My Seditious Heart” by author Arundhati Roy will be launched soon. The book contains previously published essays written by Arundhati Roy.

Pankaj Advani Wins Men’s Asian Snooker Championship

  • Ace Indian cueist Pankaj Advani defeated Thailand’s Thanawat Tirapongpaiboon 6-3 to clinch the 35th men’s Asian Snooker Championship in Doha, Qatar.
  • With this win, he has become the only player to win the Asian and World championships in all formats.
