Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2019 Awards: Tamil Nadu Top State, Peddapalli (Telangana) Top District

  • The Union Minister of the Ministry of Chemical and Fertilizers, Shri D.V. Sadananda Gowda and the Union Minister of State of the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Shri Rattan Lal Kataria, conferred the Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2019 awards on the occasion of World Toilet Day on November 20, 2019.
  • The top ranked state in the list is Tamil Nadu and the top ranked district is Peddapalli (Telangana). The state with the maximum citizen participation was given to Uttar Pradesh.

3-day Global Bio-India Summit 2019 Begins in New Delhi

  • The Global Bio-India Summit, 2019 has been organised in New Delhi from November 21-23, 2019.
  • Theme: Power to Transform Lives: Bioscience to Bioeconomy – USD 100 Bn by 2025
  • It is one of the largest biotechnology stakeholders conglomerate and is being held in India for the first time.
  • The three-day event has been organized by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science & Technology,Government of India along with its Public Sector Undertaking, Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC).
  • Associated partners: Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Association of Biotechnology Led  Enterprises  (ABLE)  and Invest India.
  • Union Minister for Science & Technology, Earth Sciences and Health & Family Welfare, Dr. Harsh Vardhan and Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated the event.

NuGen Mobility Summit 2019 to be held from Nov 27-29 at Manesar

Greta Thunberg and Divina Maloum awarded International Children’s Peace Prize 2019

  • Swedish teen activist Greta Thunberg has been awarded the International Children’s Peace Prize 2019.
  • The 16-year-old has been awarded for her work in the struggle against climate change which has resonated with schoolchildren across the world.
  • Apart from Greta, 15-year-old Cameroonian peace activist Divina Maloum has also received the International Children’s Peace Prize 2019 for her “peaceful struggle” against the Boko Haram jihadist group.
  • The International Children’s Peace Prize is given annually by the International children’s rights organization KidsRights based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
  • It is given to a child who has made a significant contribution to advocating children’s rights and improving the situation of vulnerable children such as orphans, child labourers and children with HIV/AIDS.

GRSE Delivers fast patrol vessel ‘ICGS Amrit Kaur’ to Indian Coast Guard

  • The Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE) delivered ‘ICGS Amrit Kaur’, third in the series of five fast patrol vessels (FPV) to the Indian Coast Guard on November 19, 2019.
  • ICGS Priyadarshini and ICGS Annie Besant are the first two FPV in the series which has already been delivered to ICGS.
  • The last two FPVs namely ICGS Kamla Devi and ICGS Kanaklata Barua will be commissioned shortly, after successful sea trails.
  • ICGS Amrit Kaur is the 102nd warship by GRSE.

Manu Bhaker Bags gold in 10m Air Pistol at 2019 ISSF World Cup Final

  • India’s young shooting sensation, Manu Bhaker has bagged her maiden gold medal in Women’s 10m Air Pistol at 2019 ISSF World Cup final held at the Chinese Shooting and Archery Administration Center in Putian, China.
  • The 17-year-old Bhaker broke the junior world record score with 244.7. She also became the only second Indian shooter after Heena Sidhu to win a gold medal Women’s 10m Air Pistol at the ISS World Cup.
  • Apart from this, Elavenil Valarivan also won gold in women’s 10m Air Pistol and Divyansh Singh Panwar bagged gold in men’s 10m Air Rifle.
  • India emerged as the most successful nation in the 2019 ISSF World Cup series.

World Television Day: November 21

Important Cabinet Approvals: November 20

Following are the important approvals made by the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on November 20, 2019.

  • Establishment of the National Institute for Sowa-Rigpa in Leh as an autonomous organization under the Ministry of AYUSH
  • Ex-post facto approval for the proposal that has been approved under Rule 12 of the Government of India (Transaction of Business) Rules, 1961 with regard to removing difficulty arising in giving effect to the provisions of the Jammu & Kashmir Reorganisation Act 2019 with regard to section 3 of the Act
  • Extension/renewal of the extant Pharmaceuticals Purchase Policy (PPP) with the same terms and conditions while adding one additional product namely, Alcoholic Hand Disinfectant (AHD) to the existing list of 103 medicines till the final closure/strategic disinvestment of the Pharma CPSUs
  • Approved the proposal for introducing the Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2019 in order to replace the Ordinance.
  • Adoption of the Patent Prosecution Highway programme
  • Mitigating financial stress being faced by the Telecom Services Sector
  • Introduction of International Financial Services Centres Authority Bill, 2019 in Lok Sabha, after withdrawal from Rajya Sabha
  • Introduction of the Industrial Relations Code, 2019 in the Parliament.
  • Amendments and modifications in the Toll-Operate-Transfer model and securitization of user fee receipts of NH
  •  ‘In-principle’ approval for strategic disinvestment in select CPSEs: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL), Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. (SCI), Container Corporation of India Ltd. (CONCOR), Tehri Hydro Development Corporation India Limited (THDCIL) and North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO)
  • Reduction of Government of India equity shareholding in select CPSEs below 51% by retaining management control
  • Proposal for enactment of Recycling of Ships Bill, 2019 and accession to the Hong Kong International Convention for Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships, 2009.
  • MoU between India and Finland for strengthening cooperation in the field of Tourism.
  • MoU between India and Comoros on cooperation in the field of Health and Medicine
