India’s first space tech park to come up in Kerala

  • Kerala Government will set up India’s first space tech park at Thiruvananthapuram’s Knowledge City.
  • The present Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Centre and Space Museum will then become a part of this park.
  • The entire investment will be made by the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), the research centre of ISRO. Santhosh Kurup, has been appointed as the special officer of the space park project.

Total Operational Routes Under UDAN Scheme Reaches 194

  • The Ministry of Civil Aviation had launched the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) – UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) on October 21, 2016 to stimulate regional air connectivity and make air travel affordable for general public.
  • Under the UDAN scheme 8 more new routes have recently become fully functional out of the total 706 sanctioned Routes.
  • With this, the total UDAN  routes Operational as on date has increased to 194 routes.
  • The new routes are 
    1. Mysore – Hyderabad
    2. Hyderabad – Mysore
    3. Mysore – Goa
    4. Goa – Mysore
    5. Mysore – Cochin
    6. Cochin – Mysore
    7. Kolkata – Shillong
    8. Shillong – Kolkata

CRPF unveils country’s first body protector for women personnel in combat

  • Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has unveiled the country’s first prototype of a body protector for women personnel.
  • It has been jointly developed by CRPF and Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences (DIPAS), that functions under the DRDO.
  • One such female body protector will cost around Rs 9000 and would protect an individual from the neck to the toe with chest, hand, legs, shin and thigh guards.

All Toll Plaza Lanes on National Highways to be Declared ‘FASTag Lanes’ from December 1

  • The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has decided to declare all lanes in all Toll Fee Plazas on National Highways in India as dedicated ‘FASTag Lanes’ with effect from 1 December 2019 to ensure seamless traffic and prevent congestion at toll plazas.
  • However, one hybrid lane will also be available at every toll plaza where FASTag and other modes of payment will be accepted and this lane will be converted into FASTag lane in a time bound manner.
  • FASTag is a prepaid tag that enables automatic deduction of toll charges and lets the vehicle pass through the toll plaza without stopping for the cash transaction.

India, China to conduct military exercise ‘Hand in Hand’ in Meghalaya

  • India and China will carry out a military exercise called ‘Hand-in-Hand’ in Meghalaya in December 2019.
  • The exercise will take place at Umroi, Meghalaya. Around 100-120 infantry troops from both sides will be participating in the exercise.
  • The exercise was previously held in December last year at Chengdu, China.

Telangana Govt, WEF signs agreement for Drone Delivery Project

  • The World Economic Forum Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution Network (C4IR), will launch a drone-delivery project, named ‘Medicine from the Sky‘ in Telangana.
  •  The project will have a comprehensive study of drone-based deliveries for blood, vaccines, medical samples and organs.
  • The government of Telangana, World Economic Forum and Health Net Global signed an agreement for the project

Israel inks $50m deal with India to supply MSRAM air defence system

  • Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has signed a $50 million follow-up agreement with India to provide complementary Naval MRSAM (medium-range surface-to-air missile) systems to the Indian Navy.
  • The deal involves follow up order for a range of maintenance and other services for various sub-systems of IAI’s advanced MRSAM ADS.

Aditya Birla Payments Bank announces shut down

  • Aditya Birla Payments Bank has shut down its operations within 18 months of getting the license from RBI.
  • It was a venture between Aditya Birla Nuvo (51%) and Idea Cellular (49%). It has asked its depositors to transfer their balance before July 26, 2019.
  • Stringent KYC norms and stiff competition were some of the key reasons that led to the winding-up of the payments bank.

North Korea wins Intercontinental Cup football tournament

  • North Korea has defeated Tajikistan to win the second edition of Intercontinental Cup football tournament.
  • North Korea won by 1-0 over Tajikistan. The event was held in Ahmedabad, India.

India men, women’s teams wins Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship

  • Both Indian men team and Women team have won the 21st Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship 2019 in their respective category. It was held in Cuttack, Odisha.
  • The men beat England 3-2 while Indian women defeated England 3-0. This is the first time that Indian woman team has won Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship.

Shiva Thapa wins Gold at President’s Cup boxing tournament

  • Shiva Thapa has won a Gold Medal at the President’s Cup boxing tournament in the finals in Astana, Kazakhstan.
  • He got a walkover as his opponent in the final Zakir Safiullin of Kazakhstan pulled out due to injury.
  • With this, he has become India’s first gold medallist at the President’s Cup boxing tournament.

Former Delhi CM, Sheila Dixit passes away at 81

  • Former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit has passed away at the age of 81. She was fighting with a prolonged illness.
  • She was the longest-serving Chief Minister of Delhi and she served from 1998 to 2013. She had served as the CM of Delhi for 3 times. She was from the Congress party.
