India’s first Centre of Excellence for drone development to come up at IIT Hyderabad

  • India’s first Centre of Excellence for drone development will come up at IIT Hyderabad. The initiative comes as a part of a tripartite agreement signed between IIT-H and Japan-based Terra Drone Corporation and its associate Terra Drone India.
  • IIT Hyderabad is the first academic institution to offer professional courses in artificial intelligence and related technologies

India ranked 17th in Startup Ecosystem Ranking for 2019; Top- United States

  • India has been ranked at 17th spot in the Startup Ecosystem Ranking for 2019 by StartupBlink. India has moved up 20 ranks from last years rank of 37.
  • The report ranks 100 countries. The Startup Ecosystem Ranking has been topped by the United States, followed by the United Kingdom at second and Canada at third.
  • As per the StartupBlink’s Ranking, six Indian cities found place in the top 100. Bengaluru was the top startup city in India at 11th rank, followed by New Delhi at 18th spot. The remaining cities are Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Pune.

Indian Navy launches guided missile destroyer Imphal

  • The Indian Navy has launched a guided missile destroyer named Imphal at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders in Mumbai. This was launched under the Project 15B.
  • Imphal is the third ship under Project 15B. Ships under this project can carry and operate two multiple role helicopters. The first ship of Project 15B, a guided missile destroyer christened INS Visakhapatnam, was launched on April 20, 2015.

Benjamin Netanyahu Elected as the Prime Minister of Israel for 5th Term

  • Israeli President Reuven Rivlin has formally handed over the appointed letter to Benjamin Netanyahu as the next Prime Minister of the country on April 17, 2019.
  • This will be the fifth term for 69-year-old Netanyahu as the prime Minister of Israel.

  • Con de Lange, an all-rounder cricketer from Scotland passed away at the age of 38 years. He was diagnosed with brain tumor.

First Female Astronaut Candidate of NASA, Jerrie Cobb, Passes Away

  • The first female astronaut candidate of NASA, pilot Jerrie Cobb, passes away in Florida She was 88.
  • Cobb became the first woman to pass astronaut testing in the year 1961.
  • Altogether, 13 women passed the arduous physical testing and became known as the Mercury 13.
