Anusuiya Uikey Appointed Governor of Chhattisgarh, Biswa Bhusan Harichandan Made Governor of Andhra Pradesh

  • President Ram Nath Kovind has appointed Rajya Sabha MP Anusuiya Uikey as Governor of Chhattisgarh. 
  • Senior BJP leader Biswa Bhusan Harichandan has been named as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh. 
  • Their appointments will take effect from the dates they assume charge of their offices. 

Sangeet Natak Akademi Announces 4 Akademi Ratna for the Year 2018

  • The General Council of the Sangeet Natak Akademi has unanimously elected four eminent personalities, in the field of performing arts, for Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellow (Akademi Ratna) for the year 2018 during its meeting held on 26 June 2019 at Guwahati, Assam.
  • They are Zakir Hussain, Sonal Mansingh, Jatin Goswami and K.Kalyanasundaram Pillai.
  • The Fellowship of the Akademi is the most prestigious and rare honor and is restricted to 40 numbers at any given time. By the election of above four fellows there are presently forty (40) Fellows of Sangeet Natak Akademi.    
  • Sangeet Natak Akademi is the National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama based in New Delhi.

India-UK Joint Economic Trade Committee (JETCO) meeting held in London

  • The UK-India Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) meeting was held in London on July 15, 2019. The meeting was addressed by Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Railways, Piyush Goyal.
  • India and the UK agreed to set up three new bilateral working groups to tackle barriers in specific sectors including food and drink, healthcare and data services.
  • India–UK JETCO was established in 2005 for a strategic economic relationship with the UK and to nurture business and enhance bilateral trade and investment.

World Bank gives USD 250 million loan for “First Resilient Kerala Program”

  • The Government of India, the Government of Kerala and the World Bank have signed a Loan Agreement of USD 250 million for the First Resilient Kerala Program.
  • The aim is to enhance Kerala’s resilience against the impacts of 2018 flood.
  • This is also the First ‘State Partnership’ of the World Bank in India.

HDFC Bank launches Credit card for CSC’s Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs)

  • HDFC Bank and Common Service Centre (CSC) SPV of Government of India, have launched a co-branded credit card ‘Small Business MoneyBack Credit Card’. It is aimed at small traders and village level entrepreneurs (VLEs).
  • The credit card is designed for CSC’s VLEs, and VLE-sourced customers. It will give its users easy access to credit for day-to-day business expenses.
  • The card was launched by Aditya Puri (MD at HDFC Bank) and CSC Chief Dinesh Kumar Tyagi.

Palau becomes 76th country to sign the ISA Framework Agreement

  • Palau has joined the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and has become the 76th country to sign the ISA Framework Agreement. The ISA Framework Agreement was opened for signature during the CoP-22 at Marrakesh on 15th November 2016.
  • The ISA has 121 members. It was initiated by India and ISA is headquartered in Gurugram, India.
  • So till date, 76 countries have signed the ISA Framework Agreement and 54 countries have ratified it.

Fuzhou (China) Will Host 2020 Session of World Heritage Committee

  • Fuzhou city of China will host the 44th session of the World Heritage Committee in 2020.
  • This decision was made at the 43rd session of the World Heritage Committee, in Baku, Azerbaijan, held from June 30 to July 10, 2019
  • During the 2019 session, the World Heritage Committee inscribed a total of 29 new sites on the World Heritage List including one in Africa, two in the Arab States, ten in the Asia Pacific region, 15 in Europe and North America and one in Latin America.
  • With this, the World Heritage List now features 1,121 sites in 167 countries.

ISSF World Cup 2020 to be held in India

  • The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup 2020 will be held in New Delhi, India.
  • The ISSF World Cup will be held in New Delhi from March 15 to 26 in 2020. The ISSF World Cup 2019 was held in Munich, Germany.
