Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Inaugurates Sisseri River Bridge in Arunachal Pradesh

  • Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh was on two-day visit to Arunachal Pradesh on 14-15 November 2019.
  • The minister inaugurated the Sisseri River bridge in the state that will connect the Lower Dibang Valley with Siang.
  • The 200-metre long bridge is constructed between Jonai-Pasighat-Ranaghat-Roing road in East Siang District.

8th International Conference on Agricultural Statistics to be Held in New Delhi

  • The 8th edition of the International Conference on Agricultural Statistics (ICAS-VIII) will be held in New Delhi from 18th to 21st November 2019.
  • The conference is being organized by the Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, ISI-CAS, FAO, the USDA, ADB, World Bank, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Eurostat, AfDB and various other organizations.
  • Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Shri Narendra Singh Tomar will inaugurate the event.
  • Chief Guest – Bill Gates
  • Theme of the Conference – ‘Statistics for Transformation of Agriculture to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)’.

DPIIT establishes Development Council for Bicycle to be headed by Secretary DPIIT

  • The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has set up a twenty-three-member Development Council for Bicycle.
  • The Council will be headed by Secretary DPIIT. Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra is the present Secretary of DPIIT.
  • The Council will be active for a period of two years.
  • Responsibility of the council will be vision planning in design, engineering and manufacturing of lighter, smarter, value added, safe and faster premium bicycles which are comparable with global standards for exports and domestic market.

CBI sets up online Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (OCSAE) Prevention/Investigation Unit at New Delhi

  • The Central Bureau of Investigation has set up an online Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (OCSAE) Prevention/Investigation Unit at New Delhi under its Special Crime Zone.
  • The territorial jurisdiction of the online Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (OCSAE) Prevention/Investigation Unit of CBI will be throughout India.
  • OCSAE unit will collect, collate and disseminate information regarding publication, transmission, creation, collection, seeking, browsing, downloading, advertising, promoting, exchanging, distribution of information relating to online child sexual abuse and exploitation.

India pledges to contribute $13.5 mn for UN development activities for 2020

  • India has pledged to contribute USD 13.5 million for various operational activities of development across the UN agencies for the year 2020.
  • Counsellor at India’s Permanent Mission to the UN Anjani Kumar announced India’s pledges at the UN General Assembly Pledging Conference for Development Activities.

Bangladesh Tops 2019 Trace Bribery Risk Matrix in South Asia

  • The annual Bribery Risk Matrix 2019 was released by TRACE recently to measure business bribery risk in 200 countries.
  • TRACE is a US based organisation which provides ranking to various countries in terms of the risk of bribery that companies face in doing business in those countries.

Findings of Index

  • Bangladesh emerged as the top most nation among the South Asian countries where the bribery risk is high. It has been placed at 178th position among 200 nations with a risk score of 72 out of 100.
  • Pakistan (153) and Afghanistan (168) were the only other South Asian nations where the bribery risk is ‘high’.
  • Bhutan (52) has the lowest risk of bribery (41) in South Asia.
  • India has been placed at 78th spot with bribery risk of 48.
  • Overall, New Zealand ranked first as the country with lowest bribery risk having risk score of 4 followed by Norway and Denmark.
  • On the other hand, Somalia (200) emerged as the highest risk of bribe demands nation with a score of 94.

FIFA Names Arsene Wenger as new Chief of Global Football Development

  • The world football governing body FIFA has selected veteran coach Arsene Wenger as FIFA’s new Chief of global football development.
  • The 70-year-old former Arsenal and Monaco coach would be responsible for the growth of the game for both men and women around the world.

Harish Bhat Authors Novel Named ‘An Extreme Love for Coffee’

  • Harish Bhat, Chairma of Tata Coffee Ltd. and Brand Custodian of Tata Sons has authored India’s first coffee themed Novel titled ‘An Extreme Love for Coffee.’
  • This is his third book but the first fiction, which has been published by Penguin Random House.
  • The book will enable a reader to know a lot more about different varieties of Indian coffee.
