Indian Armed Forces Conducts Exercise Bull Strike at Teressa Island in Andaman

  • The Indian Armed Forces carried out Exercise Bull Strike at Teressa Island in Andaman and Nicobar to showcase joint operations capability of the armed forces.
  • About 149 Indian Army, 12 Indian Air Force and 9 Indian Navy soldiers participated in several combat drills.

DRDO Successfully Conducts Test Flight of ABHYAS Drone

  • The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successful conducted the test flight of ABHYAS drone on May 14, 2019 from Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur in Balasore, Odisha.
  • ABHYAS drone is a High-speed Expendable Aerial Target (HEAT) designed for autonomous flight with the help of an autopilot.
  • ABHYAS is being built by the Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for the Indian Armed Forces.

ISRO Chairman Inaugurates Young Scientist Programme ‘Yuvika2019’

  • The first edition of the Young Scientist Programme Yuvika2019’ was inaugurated by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman Dr K Sivan through video mode in Bengaluru on May 13, 2019.
  • It is a two week summer vacation residential programme that will be conducted from 13 to 26 May 2019 over four ISRO centres in Bengaluru, Thiruvananthapuram, Ahmedabad and Shillong.
  • 107 students which includes 3 students from each from each State/ Union Territory have been selected for Yuvika2019.
  • Yuvika, which stands for YUva VIgyani KAryakram“, is a special programme for School Children aimed at imparting basic knowledge on Space Technology, Space Science and Space Applications to the younger ones with the intent of arousing their interest in the emerging areas of Space activities.

RIL Re-gains Status of India’s Most-Valued Firm by M-Cap

  • Reliance Industries Ltd has reclaimed its status as India’s most-valued firm in terms of market valuation on May 13, 2019, overtaking software services major TCS.
  • TCS had on May 9, 2019, became the country’s most-valued firm by market valuation, surpassing RIL.
  • RIL’s market capitalisation (m-cap) stood at Rs 7,98,385.98 crore. This was Rs 12,505.29 crore more than that of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Rs 7,85,880.69 crore valuation, according to data available with the BSE.

Dinesh Pangtey Appointed as CEO of LIC Mutual Fund

  • LIC Mutual Fund has appointed Dinesh Pangtey as Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
  • Before his appointment, Mr Pangtey was Director and Chief Executive Officer at LIC HFL AMC.
  • He started his career as a direct recruit officer with LIC of India in 1984.

Jet Airways CEO Vinay Dube Steps Down with Immediate Effect

  • The Cheif Executive Officer (CEO) of Jet Airways, Vinay Dube has resigned from services of Jet Airways with immediate effect citing personal reasons on May 13, 2019..
  • This exit follows the resignation of Jet Airways’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer Amit Agarwal earlier in the day.

International Army Games to be Held in India for the First Time in Rajasthan

  • For the first time, India will be host a part of the International Army Games at Jaisalmer in August 2019, in a bid to promote cordial relations with the participating countries.
  • International Army Games is an international military sports event organised by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation since 2015 and is participated by around 32 countries.
  • The 2019 event will be held in 32 disciplines and will be hosted by 10 countries including Russia, India, China, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Iran, Mongolia, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
  • India will host the fifth Army International Scout Masters Competition as a part of the Game.

  • Yosuke Asaji of Japan has won the Asia-Pacific Diamond Golf Cup 2019 by one shot at the Sobu Country Club on May 12, 2019.
  • From Indian side, Rahil Gangjee finished tied 39th and Viraj Madappa ended tied 53rd in the finals.

ICC Appoints GS Lakshmi as First Female Match Referee

  • GS Lakshmi has been appointed to the ICC International Panel of Match Referees, becoming eligible to referee international matches with immediate effect.
  • With this, the 51-year-old has become the first ever woman to be inducted to Match Referees panel of ICC.
  • Lakshmi first officiated in domestic women’s cricket in 2008-09 and has supervised three women’s ODI matches and three women’s T20I matches.
