Hima Das Wins Women’s 200m Gold at Kladno Memorial Athletics Meet

  • Hima Das has won the gold medal in women’s 200m event at the Kladno Memorial Athletics Meet held at Kladno, Czech Republic on July 13, 2019.
  • This is the third international gold medal in 11 days for Assam runner. Before this, she claimed her first 200m gold at Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poland, followed by second 200m gold at the Kutno Athletics Meet in Poland.
  • Meanwhile, the 24-year-old Mohammad Anas beat his own national record in men’s 400m race to bag a gold.
  • Among other winners, the Indian trio of Vipin Kasana, Abhishek Singh and Davinder Singh Kang claimed the top three spots in men’s javelin final respectively.
  • National record holder Tejinder Pal Singh Toor won bronze in men’s shot put event.
  • In the women’s 400m race, VK Vismaya won gold while Saritaben Gayekwad claimed bronze.

Lewis Hamilton wins 2019 British F1 Grand Prix

  • Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes – Britain) has won the Formula One 2019 British Grand Prix. It is the sixth time that he has won the British Grand Prix. He thus overtakes Jim Clark and Alain Prost, who both had five wins, and now has the greatest record of all in this race.
  • Valtteri Bottas was at second followed by Charles Leclerc at third.
  • Max Verstappen and Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel had a crash during the race crash

Simona Halep wins Wimbledon Open 2019 Women’s Single

  • Simona Halep of Romania has defeated Serena Williams 6-2, 6-2 to win the Wimbledon Open 2019 Women’s Single Title.
  • This is the first Wimbledon Title for Simona Halep. 

Amir Khan wins WBC International Welterweight Title

  • Indian boxer Amir Khan has won the WBC International Welterweight Title by defeating Australian Billy Dib in the 1st edition of Super Boxing League.
  • The event was held at King Abdullah Sports City, Saudi Arabia.

Former Bangladesh President H.M. Ershad Passes Away at 89

Former Bangladeshi Army Chief and politician, Hussain Muhammad Ershad, who served as the President of Bangladesh from 1983 to 1990 passed away. He was 89.

Computer Password Inventor Fernando Corbato Passes Away at 93

  • Fernando “Corby” Corbato, prominent American computer scientist, credited with inventing the computer password, passed away. He was 93.
  • The MIT ( Massachusetts Institute of Technology) researcher is credited for devising the concept of password-protected user accounts to secure access to files on a large computer system.
  • He is also a pioneer in the development of time-sharing operating systems known as MIT Compatible Time-Sharing System, which let multiple people use a computer at the same time.
