Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali Wins The Nobel Peace Prize for 2019

  • The Norwegian Nobel Committee has named Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali as the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize for 2019.
  • He has been chosen for his efforts to achieve peace and international cooperation, and in particular for his decisive initiative to resolve the border conflict with neighbouring Eritrea.

Govt Launches Satellite-based Disaster Warning Device GEMINI for Fishermen

  • The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) along with Airports Authority of India (AAI) has launched the Gagan Enabled Mariner’s Instrument for Navigation and Information (GEMINI) device.
  • Aim: To provide seamless and effective dissemination of emergency information and communication on disaster warnings, Potential Fishing Zones (PFZ) and Ocean States Forecasts (OSF) to fishermen far away from coastal areas.
  • The GEMINI is a portable device that will use GAGAN (GPS Aided Geo Augmented Navigation) satellite system developed by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and AAI to receive alert information highly useful in dealing with cyclones, high waves and tsunamis

MHoUPA launches “mHariyali” mobile app for ‘Environment Protection

  • Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation has launched a mobile app named “mHariyali” which aims to encourage Public engagement in planting trees and other such Green drives.
  • People can now upload information/photos of any plantation done by them, which is linked to app and will be displayed on the website www.epgc.gov.in.
  • The App provides for automatic geo-tagging of plants.

Mukesh Ambani tops 2019 Forbes India Rich List

  • Mukesh Ambani has again topped the Forbes India Rich List for 2019 with a total wealth of USD 51.4 billion.
  • Gautam Adani has been ranked second with a wealth of $15.7 billion. Hinduja brothers are at third with a wealth of $15.6 billion. Pallonji Mistry is at fourth with $15 billion while Uday Kotak is at fifth with $14.8 billion.

Mumbai ranked 12th richest city in the world; Top- New York

  • As per the New World Wealth report, New York City has been ranked as the wealthiest city in the world with a wealth of $ 3 trillion.
  • Mumbai is th only Indian city in the top 20 and is ranked at 12th spot. It has a wealth of $ 0.96 trillion.
  • Tokyo is on second followed by San Francisco is at third, London is ranked at fourth.

International Day of the Girl Child: October 11

  • The International Day of the Girl Child is observed every year on October 11 since 2012. It is also known as Day of Girls and the International Day of the Girl.
  • It is the United Nations recognized day to highlight and address the needs and challenges faced by girls and also promote girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights
