PAN not linked to Aadhaar card will become invalid from September 01, 2019

  • Central Government has announced that it will invalidate all PAN cards that are not linked to Aadhaar by September 01, 2019.
  • To validate and continue using the existing PAN cards, citizens will have to link them to Aadhaar. However, a person will be permitted to use Aadhaar instead for filing returns and while making other high-value transactions, specified under the Income Tax Act.
  • At present 180 out of the existing 400 million PAN cards are not linked to Aadhaar.

Exim Bank inks USD 124.50 mn loan pact for infra, health projects in Papua New Guinea, Senegal

  • EXIM Bank has extended Line of Credit of USD 100 million to the  Government of Independent State of Papua New Guinea for the purpose of financing infrastructure related projects.
  • Apart from this EXIM Bank has also extended Line of Credit of USD 24.50 million to the  Government of the Republic of Senegal for the purpose of financing up-gradation and rehabilitation of Health Care System in the Republic of Senegal.

Govt forms panel to create a $110-billion mobile phone export business from India; Head- Amitabh Kant

  • The Government will set up a secretary-level task force to figure out how to create a $110-billion mobile phone export business from India.
  • The task force will be headed by NITI Aayog Chief Executive Officer Amitabh Kant.
  • The push to set up the task force has come from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). The PMO has suggested the secretaries should form a policy that eliminates India’s weakness vis-à-vis other Asian countries.

UBS predicts India’s GDP growth to 6.7% for FY20

  • Swiss brokerage firm UBS has predicted India’s GDP growth rate for FY20 (2019-20) at 6.7%. This is 20 bps less than its earlier prediction of 6.9%.
  • As per UBS, India’s GDP growth rate in FY19 was 6.8%.

RPF Launches “Operation Thirst” Against Unauthorised Packaged Drinking Water

  • The Director General (DG)/RPF, Railway Board ordered to launch all India drive named “Operation Thirst” on July 8-9, 2019 to curb the menace of unauthorized PDW (PACKAGED DRINKING WATER) in Railway premises.
  • The drive, which covered all major stations over Indian Railway, seized 69294 bottles of PDW and 1371 persons were arrested under sections 144 & 153 of Rly. Act for selling of packaged drinking water of unauthorised brands. 
  • Total fine amounting to around Rs. 6,80,855/- have been realized from these offenders.

Akshay Kumar only Indian in Forbes Highest-Paid Celebrities 2019; Top- Taylor Swift

  • Forbes has released the list of  The Highest-Paid Celebrities 2019. American singer Taylor Swift has topped the rankings with an earning of $ 185 Million.
  • Actor Akshay Kumar is the only Indian in the list and is ranked at 33rd. His total earning is $ 65 Million.
  • Kylie Jenner is on second followed by Kanye West on third.

World’s Largest Movable Metal Dome Unveiled in Ukraine

  • The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, along with his European partners formally inaugurated a new metal dome called as New Safe Confinement, which shelters the remains of the Reactor No. 4 of Chernobyl nuclear power plant that exploded and burned on April 26, 1986. 
  • The enclosure is said to be the world’s largest movable metal structure.
  • The 1.5 billion euro ($1.7 billion) structure was paid through special fund launched by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and sponsored by 45 countries.

Delhi Based Isha Kanth Selected for ICJ Internship Programme

  • Isha Kanth, from Delhi, has been selected for the prestigious two-month internship at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) based at The Hague.
  • Only two law students from across the world gets selected for this internship programme.
  • The 20-year-old girl is currently pursuing a bachelor degree in Law from Queen Mary University of London.

Brazilian Bossa Nova Pioneer Joao Gilberto Passes Away

  • Joao Gilberto, Brazilian singer, songwriter, and guitarist, who was a pioneer of the musical genre of bossa nova in the late 1950 passed away. He was 88.
  • He was often called “father of bossa nova” around the world.
  • Bossa nova is a style of Brazilian music, which is a fusion of samba and jazz.

World Population Day: July 11

  • World Population day is observed annually on July 11 to raise awareness of global population issues.
  • It was established by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989.
