RBI board finalises ‘Utkarsh 2022’ to improve regulation and supervision

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) board has finalised a three- year roadmap named “Utkarsh 2022” to improve regulation and supervision and various other functions of the central bank.
  • To identify issues that needed to be addressed over the next three years, an internal committee was formed. It was headed by outgoing Deputy Governor Viral Acharya.
  • This is in line with the practice of Central Banks across the world, that make long term and short term plans.

India Conducts 3 Successful Tests of Nag Missile in Single day at Pokhran

  • The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) carried out three successful test firings, during both day and night, of the Nag anti-tank guided missiles in the Pokhran firing ranges in Rajasthan.
  • NAM Missile is in the final stage of induction in the Indian Army having top attack capabilities that can effectively engage and destroy all known enemy tanks during day and night. 
  • The Defence Acquisition Council approved the procurement of NAG Missile System (NAMIS), designed and developed by DRDO, at the cost of Rs 524 crore in 2018.
  • The NAMIS system includes a third generation Anti-Tank Guided Missile, NAG, and the Missile Carrier Vehicle (NAMICA).

Uttarakhand to Get Asia’s First Six Sigma Institute of Mountain Medicines & High Altitude Rescue

  • The Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has informed that Asia’s first Six Sigma Institute of Mountain Medicines and High Altitude Rescue will soon be established at Rudraprayag in Uttarakhand.
  • The mountain institute will create 1,200 employment, Specialised healthcare, advance education and Rescue Training in the state.

Gully Boy Recognized with NETPAC Award in South Korea

  • Bollywood film ‘Gully Boy’ has won the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) Award at the 23rd Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) in South Korea. 
  • The film features actors Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. It has been directed by filmmaker Zoya Akhtar.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis Appointed as Prime Minister of Greece

  • Kyriakos Mitsotakis has been sworn in as the new Prime Minister of Greece.
  • The New Democracy party President, Mitsotakis, won a landslide over leftist Syriza led by outgoing Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.
  • Mitsotakis, 51, won 39.85 percent of the vote compared with 31.53 for Syriza, which had been in power since 2015.

M Nageswar Rao Appointed Director General of Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guard

  • The Central Government has appointed M Nageswar Rao as the Director General of Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guard.
  • Rao will continue to hold the post till superannuation on 31 July 2020.
  • Before this, he held the position of Additional Director of India’s premier investigative agency, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), but now he has been removed from this position.

Lieutenant General Shailesh Sadashiv Tinaikar Takes Charge as Force Commander of UN mission in South Sudan

  • Lieutenant General Shailesh Sadashiv Tinaikar has assumed charge as Force Commander of the UN mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) in Juba on July 6, 2019.
  • He was appointed as UNMISS Force Commander by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in May 2019.
  • 34-year-old Tinaikar has been felicitated with the Sena Medal and the Vishisht Seva Medal for Distinguished Service.

BCCI appoints Rahul Dravid as Head of National Cricket Academy

  • Rahul Dravid has been appointed as the Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) by BCCI.
  • Rahul Dravid will look after all cricket related activities at the NCA and he will be involved in mentoring, coaching, training and motivating players, coaches and the support staff at the academy.
  • National Cricket Academy is located in Bengaluru 

Magnus Carlsen Wins 2019 Croatia Grand Chess Tour

  • Magnus Carlsen of Norway defeated French player Maxime Vachier-Lagrave to win the Croatia Grand Chess Tour with eight points out of 11. The world champion won his eighth straight tournament in a row.
  • Filipino-American player Wesley So finished second with seven points .
  • India’s Viswanathan Anand ended up with 4.5 points and finished 11th.

Sunil Chhetri and Ashalata Devi wins AIFF Award

  • All India Football Federation (AIFF) has announced the awards for the 2018-19 season.
  • Indian men’s footballer Sunil Chhetri has won the AIFF Men’s footballer of the year 2018-19 award.
  • Women’s footballer Ashalata Devi has won the Women’s footballer of the year award.

Mexico Beat US to win 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup (Football)

  • Mexico defeated the United States 1-0 to win the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup for a record eighth time at Soldier Field in Chicago.
  • Jonathan dos Santos scored the only goal for Mexico.
  • The 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup was the 15th edition of the biennial international men’s football championship of the North, Central American, and Caribbean region organized by CONCACAF. 

Narendra Singh Tomar Launches Coffee Table Book to Commemorate 50 years of Partnership with UNWFP

  • Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar has launched a Coffee Table Book named ’50 years of Partnership for Change’ on July 8, 2019 in New Delhi.
  • The book has been launched to commemorate five decades (50 years) of partnership between the Ministry and UN World Food Programme (UNWFP) towards addressing food and nutritional security in India.

Former India goalkeeper Celestine passed away

  • Former Indian football team goalkeeper A. U. Celestine has passed away at the age of 73 years.
  • Celestine played for the Tamil Nadu men’s team in the Senior Nationals as a goalkeeper in the 1965 and 1969 National Championships and also represented India in the Merdeka Cup in Malaysia in 1969.
