Persons with foreign trips, steep electricity bills to file Income Tax return

  • The Government has announced to made amendment in the Income Tax Act to make income tax return filing mandatory for high spenders even if their taxable income is below the threshold exemption limit of Rs 5 lakh.
  • A person will be required to file income tax return with the following condition:
    • Deposited an amount or aggregate of the amounts exceeding Rs one crore in one or more current account
    • incurred expenditure of an amount or aggregate of the amounts exceeding Rs two lakh for himself or any other person for travel to a foreign country
    • incurred expenditure of an amount or aggregate of the amounts exceeding Rs one lakh towards consumption of electricity

LinkedIn appoints Ashutosh Gupta as country manager for India

  • Ashutosh Gupta has been appointed as the Country Manager for India by LinkedIn. He will take over the position w.e.f September 02, 2019.
  • He will replace Mahesh Narayanan, who was the country manager for India (LinkedIn) from January 2019 to June 2019.

Annual Bonalu Festival Kicks Off in Telangana

  • The annual state festival ‘Bonalu’ began on July 7, 2019 in Telangana. It is celebrated in the month of Ashada Masam which falls in July/August. 
  • The Hindu Festival is celebrated in Twin Cities Hyderabad, Secunderabad and other parts of Telangana to worship Goddess Mahakali.
  • Bonam means Meal in Telugu, and denotes offering to the Mother Goddess as a form of thanksgiving after the fulfillment of vows. 

Tata Steel Kalinganagar Becomes First Indian Manufacturing Plant To Be Inducted in WEF Global Lighthouse Network

  • Tata Steel Kalinganagar (TSK) in Odisha has been inducted in the list of the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Global Lighthouse Network.
  • TSK is the first and the only Indian manufacturing plant to be included in the list.
  • The ‘lighthouses’ network are community of manufacturers chosen for their leadership in applying Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies to drive financial and operational impact 

Vice President releases book titled ‘Vivekadeepini’ in ten languages

  • The Vice President of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu has released a book titled “Vivekadeepini”. It has been released in 10 languages.
  • It is a book that contains facts and principles of spiritual leaders like Adi Shankaracharya and Swami Vivekananda.
  • The original book is written by Sri  Adi Shankaracharya in Prashnottara Ratnamalika (Questions and Answers).
  • The conversion in different 10 languages has been done by Vedanta Bharati.

Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme 2019-20 Series-II issue starts

  • The Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme 2019-20 Series-II is now open for issue from July 08 to July 12, 2019. The following are the major points to remember:
  • Denomination: Minimum investment in the Bonds shall be one gram with a maximum limit of subscription per fiscal year of 4 kg for individuals, 4 kg for Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) and 20 kg for trusts
  • Issue Price: ₹3,443/- per gram (Discount of Rs 50 per gram on online payment/digital payment)
  • Interest: 2.5%

Parupalli Kashyap Loses to China’s Li Shi Feng at 2019 Canada Open

  • Former Commonwealth Games champion Parupalli Kashyap lost to China’s Li Shi Feng to claim silver in the men’s singles title clash of the Canada Open Super 100 tournament.
  • Sixth seed Kashyap fell short by 22-20 14-21 17-21.

Brazil beat Peru 3-1 to Lift Copa America 2019

  • Brazil defeated Peru 3–1 in the final to win the 2019 Copa America title. This was their ninth Copa title.  Argentina took third place.
  • The 2019 Copa América was the 46th edition of the Copa America, the international men’s association football championship organized by CONMEBOL, South America’s football ruling body, between 14 June to 7 July 2019.

USA Beat Netherlands 2-0 in 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup

    • United States women’s soccer team successfully claimed 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, beating the Netherlands, 2-0, in Lyon, France.
    • This is the record fourth title for USA and second in a row. They earlier won the titles in 1991, 1999 and 2015.
    • Golden Boot (top scorer) – Megan Rapinoe (6 goals) 
    • Golden Ball (best overall player) – Megan Rapinoe (USA)
    • Golden Glove (best goalkeeper)  – Sari van Veenendaal (Netherlands)
