International Seminar ‘Pragyan Conclave 2020’ Begins in New Delhi

  • A two-day Indian Army International Seminar “PRAGYAN CONCLAVE 2020”, has been organized in New Delhi on 4-5 March 2020.
  • The seminar has been organized by Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS), an autonomous think tank on strategic studies and land warfare, based in New Delhi.
  • The event provides a platform to deliberate on the complex subject of ‘Changing Characteristics of Land Warfare and its Impact on the Military’.

108 Indian Science Congress to be held in Pune in January 2021

  • The 108th edition of the Indian Science Congress is scheduled to be held in Pune in January 2021. This will be the fourth time that the city will host the prestigious meet in the last 100 years.
  • The event will be held at Symbiosis International University’s Lavale campus between January 3 and 7.
  • Theme of the 108th Indian Science Congress will be ‘Science and Technology for Sustainable Development with Women Empowerment’ 
  • Dr Vijay Laxmi Saxena has been elected general president of the Indian Science Congress, 2021.

Government Declares National Chambal sanctuary as eco-sensitive zone

  • The Central Government has declared the National Chambal Sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh as an eco-sensitive zone.
  • This means that now the construction of the commercial establishments such as hotels or resorts will be prohibited within an area of zero to two kilometres from the sanctuary, to help maintain distance between the human settlement and the sanctuary.
  • The sanctuary based in the Chambal region is home for a lot of critically endangered species like Critically Endangered gharial, the red-crowned roof turtle and the Endangered Ganges river dolphin.
  • The National Chambal Sanctuary is spread over an area of 435 sq km spanning three districts of Madhya Pradesh namely Sheopur, Morena and Bhind district.
  • It lies at the tripoint of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

Gzb Police launches ‘One Cop One Gangster’ operation to track criminals

  • The district police of Ghaziabad has launched a special drive named ‘One Cop One Gangster’ to keep a close eye on criminals by deputing a dedicated policeman behind every wanted person.
  • Under the drive, the notorious criminals of the district will remain under the surveillance of sub-inspectors, while passive ones will be watched by head constables and constables.

President Kovind confers 61st Lalit Kala Akademi awards

  • On March 4, 2020, President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, conferred the 61st annual Lalit Kala Akademi Awards on 15 meritorious artists at a function in Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
  • The Lalit Kala Akademi Fellowship is the highest honour for the fine arts in India, conferred by the Government of India to eminent artists for their lifetime achievements in the field of visual arts.
  • It is awarded by the Lalit Kala Akademi, India’s National Academy of Art.

Irish Women Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara wins 2020 Pritzker Prize

  • Dublin-based Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara have been named as the recipients of the 2020 Pritzker Prize, the highest accolade for architecture in the world.
  • This is the first time that female duo has won architecture’s most prestigious award. Also, for the first time, Irish citizens have ever picked up the prize.
  • Before them, only three other female have won Pritzkers in the past 41-year history of the prize.
  • Their work includes The Grafton Building of Bocconi University , Paris’s Institut Mines Telecom building etc.

Sudhanshu Pandey takes charge as new CMD of MMTC Ltd

  • Sudhanshu Pandey has assumed additional charge as Chairman and Managing Director of MMTC Ltd, India’s largest public sector trading body.
  • Presently he is serving as Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry
  • MMTC (former Metals and Minerals Trading Corporation) is India’s single largest international trading company for product lines like minerals, metals and precious metals.

Azlan Shah Cup Hockey Tournament 2020 postponed from April to September due to Coronavirus

  • The 29th edition of the prestigious Azlan Shah Cup hockey tournament has been postponed from April 2020 to September 2020 due to novel coronavirus outbreak across the world.
  • The tournament was scheduled to be held in Ipoh, Malaysia from April 11 to 18. Now it will be held from September 24 to October 3.
  • The Azlan Shah Cup is an annual men’s international invitational field hockey tournament held in Malaysia.

National Security Day: March 4

  • In India, March 4 is celebrated as National Security Day (Rashtriya Suraksha Diwas) every year.
  • The day aims to show gratitude to all the security forces, including policemen, para-military forces, commandos, guards, army officers, and other persons involved in security, who sacrifice their life in maintaining the peace and security of the people of the country.
  • 4 March also marks the day when National Security Council (NSC) of India was established.
