Assam Government to Provide Rs 1.7 lakh Subsidy for Admission in North East Skill Centre

  • The government of Assam has announced that it will provide a subsidy of Rs 1.7 lakh for the admission in the North East Skill Centre (NESC), launched to provide skill development courses to meet up the demand of the industry.
  • Total 400 students will get admission in first batch. The total course fees for the first batch students would be around Rs 2.2 lakh for which the state government has planned to provide a subsidy of Rs 1.7 lakh.
  • NESC has been set up by the Assam government in collaboration with ITE Education Services (ITEES), Singapore and was inaugurated in March 2019.
  • It will provide International Standard, quality skill training facility in Food & Beverage Service, Housekeeping, Retail Service and Beauty & Wellness. 

Forbes Magazine Names Jay-Z as World’s First Billionaire Rapper

  • Forbes has declared the American rapper Jay-Z as the world’s first hip-hop artist to become billionaire with a total net worth of around $1bn (£800m)
  • The 49-year-old Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Corey Carter, is the husband of American singer Beyonce.
  • His superstar wife is reported to have a net worth of about $ 335 mn.

Dell India’s most trusted brand: TRA

  • Dell has topped the TRA’s Brand Trust Report as the most trusted brand. Dell is followed by JEEP an automobile company at second and LIC at third.
  • Amongst BFSI, LIC is top at the 3rd rank and SBI is ranked at 10th while Aviva Life Insurance is at 8th rank.
  • 1000 brands have been ranked in TRA’S Brand Trust Report.

Yusuff Ali gets first Gold Card permanent residency visa in UAE

  • The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced that it had issued its first gold residence card to Indian business leader Yusuff Ali MA.
  • He is the chairman of LuLu Group International.
  • The Indian business tycoon became the first among 6,800 investors to receive the UAE’s permanent residency. The first batch of beneficiaries include investors with total investments exceeding (dirham) Dh100 billion.

RBI Approves Appointment of Rakesh Makhija Axis Bank Chairman

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the appointment of Rakesh Makhija as the non-executive (part-time) chairman of the Axis Bank, for a period of 3 years, with effect from July 18, 2019, up to July 17, 2022.
  • He will replace Sanjiv Misra whose term ends on July 17, 2019.
  • In March 2019, the board of the Axis Bank had approved appointment of Makhija as chairman subject to RBI clearance.

  • Flipkart co-founder Sachin Bansal has joined Ujjivan Small Finance Bank as Independent Director.

Mrutyunjay Mohapatra appointed as Chief of IMD

  • Mrutyunjay Mohapatra has been appointed as the Director General/Chief of India Meteorological Department (IMD).
  • He is a scientist in IMD and will take charge of the post on or after August 1, 2019

Ashok Leyland ties up with Suryoday Small Finance Bank for vehicle loans

  • Ashok Leyland and Suryoday Small Finance Bank have signed an agreement for vehicle loans.
  • Under the agreement, the Suryoday SFB will provide end-to-end financial solutions to Ashok Leyland’s customers for auto/vehicle loans all over India.

‘Czar of Indian Cuisine’ Jiggs Kalra Passes Away

  • Celebrated chef, food columnist, restaurateur, author and food consultant, Jaspal Inder Singh Kalra, formally known as Jiggs Kalra, passed away. He was 72.
  • He was widely described as “czar of Indian cuisine” and “taste maker to the nation”, a title conferred upon him by eminent writer Khushwant Singh.
  • He has cooked for personalities like Princess Diana, Prince Charles, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Bill Clinton.

International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression: June 4

  • The International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression is observed on June 4 every year to acknowledge the children who are victims of physical, mental and emotional abuse, throughout the world. 
  • It was recognised by United Nations on 19 August 1982 also celebrates organisations working towards protecting child rights and also making others aware of the same.
