PM Modi to participate in the 13th G-20 summit to be held in Argentina

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the 13th G-20 summit that will take place in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It will start on November 30, 2018.
  • Theme of the summit: “Building Consensus for a Fair and Sustainable Development”
  • Chair: Mauricio Macri (President of Argentina)
  • Japan will host the G-20 Summit in 2019 (Osaka)

International Gita Festival to be held in Kurukshetra, Haryana

  • The International Gita Festival, 2018, will be organised in Kurukshetra in Haryana from December 7-23, 2018
  • Mauritius will be the partner country and Gujarat the partner state.
  • The Gita festival will also be organised in Mauritius in February, 2019.

Himachal becomes first state to launch single emergency number

  • Himachal Pradesh has become the first Indian state to launch a single emergency number “112” which will connect to police, fire, health and other helplines through an Emergency Response Centre (ERC) in the state.
  • It was launched under the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) Project. ‘112 India’ mobile app was also launched under the ERSS Project for the same purpose.
  • Ensuring safety of women, a ‘SHOUT’ feature has been introduced in ‘112 India’ mobile app to seek immediate assistance from registered volunteers in the vicinity apart from the immediate assistance from ERC. 

Opening Ceremony of Men’s Hockey World Cup 2018 held in Kalinga Stadium

  • The opening ceremony of Men’s Hockey World Cup 2018 was held in the Kalinga Stadium of Bhubaneswar (Odisha). 
  • The event started on a vibrating note with ‘Jai Hind India’ being played in the background. FIH president Narendra Batra took the center stage to start the celebrations of the event.

    • Mascot: ‘Olly‘- ( ‘Olly’ represents the endangered Olive Ridley sea turtles)

Shri Arvind Saxena appointed as Chairman of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC)

  • The President has appointed Shri Arvind Saxena as Chairman of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
  • Prior to joining  UPSC as Member, Shri Saxena was working as  Director of the Aviation Research Centre (ARC).

A M Naik appointed as the chairman of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC)

  • A M Naik has been appointed as the chairman of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). He is the Chairman of Larsen & Toubro Group.
  • NSDC, under the ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, aims to promote skill development by catalysing creation of large, quality and for-profit vocational institutions.

Slovenia appoints irst female head of armed forces; becomes first country to do so

  • Slovenia has appointed a woman as head of its army, becoming the only NATO nation to do so.
  • Maj Gen Alenka Ermenc, 55, will be the head of the staff.

Book titled “Making of New India” released by Arun Jaitley

  • Shri Arun Jaitley presented the first copy of the book titled “Making of New India: Transformation under Modi Government” to President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind.
  • This book, edited by Dr Bibek Debroy, Dr Anirban Ganguly and Shri Kishore Desai, contains 51 essays on themes ranging from economy to diplomacy, education to public health.
