India Ranks 53 in IMD Global Talent Ranking; Switzerland Tops

  • India slipped two positions to rank at 53rd position in a global survey released by IMD Business School Switzerland 
  • Switzerland retained its top position for the fifth consecutive year in the survey titled as ‘IMD World Talent Ranking 2018’.
  • Denmark, Norway, Austria and the Netherlands were ranked second, third, fourth and fifth, respectively,

Himachal Pradesh Approves Sashakt Mahila Yojna to Empower Rural Women

  • The Himachal Pradesh government has approved to implement Sashakt Mahila Yojna in the state with a vision to empower rural women by providing them an interface for organisation and socio-economic development.
  • The decision was taken during the state cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur.
  • The scheme not only envisages to link rural women with sustainable livelihood opportunities but also to improve their skill by imparting training.

Andhra Pradesh to Set Up India’s First Justice City

  • Andhra Pradesh is building a world-class and India’s first ‘Justice City’ within its new capital Amaravati.
  • It is being set up with the vision to provide a state-of-the-art ecosystem built on latest technology for supporting the judicial system in the state.
  • Justice City will provide the necessary infrastructure to provide speedy justice for litigants, easy and better access to justice for the masses, reduce pending cases and make the work of judges, advocates and all those related with work of judiciary more effective.

Hyderabad to host gaming and digital media expo – IndiaJoy 2018

  • IndiaJoy 2018, billed as Asia’s biggest gaming-cum-digital media and entertainment content expo will be held in Hyderabad, Telangana.
  • The five-day event beginning on December 2 is supported by the Government of Telangana and facilitated by Telangana VFX, Animation & Gaming Association (TVAGA).

Indo-US joint military exercise ‘Vajra Prahar’ Begins in Jaipur

  • The 12-day long joint military exercise between India and the United States known as ‘Vajra Prahar’ commenced at Mahajan Field Firing Ranges in Jaipur on November 19.
  • The joint training exercise aims to enhance the interoperability of the two armed forces and further the military to military co-operation.

Reliance Jio to take over as service provider for Indian Railways from Jan 1, 201`

  • Reliance Jio Infocomm will serve the as the telecom operator for Indian railways – from January 1, 2019. It will replace Bharti Airtel.
  • This will reduce the telecom bills for Railways by around 35%.

Amitabh Bachchan receives Sayaji Ratna Award

  • Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan has been awarded the third Sayaji Ratna Award.
  • Infosys co-founder N R Narayana Murthy and noted industrialist Ratan Tata have been given the award earlier.

INTERPOL elects Kim Jong Yang as its new President

  • The International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) elected South Korean Kim Jong Yang as its new President at the 87th session of the INTERPOL General Assembly in Dubai, UAE.

Abhijit Bose appointed as India Head of Whatsapp

  • WhatsApp has announced the appointment of Abhijit Bose as its India head.
  • He will build WhatsApp’s first full country team outside of California and will be based in Gurugram. This comes after pressure from the government to build a separate corporate entity in the country.

UN Environment Chief Erik Solheim Quits

  • UN environment chief Erik Solheim has resigned after an audit report found he had spent over $488,000 on excessive travel.
  • The severe criticism of his global travels and internal rule-breaking led some nations to withhold their funding.
  • Deputy Executive Director of UNEP Joyce Msuya, from Tanzania, will be appointed as acting executive director while the Secretary-General launches a recruitment process, in consultation with member states, to find a successor to Solheim.

International Space Station completes 20 years

  • In the 20 years since it was launched in November 1998, the International Space Station has delivered on its promise for scientific exploration in the unique environment of space.
  • Fifteen countries are participants in the programme, and the ISS typically has six permanent crew, who stay for around six months at a time.

Oscar-Winning Screenwriter William Goldman Passes Away

  • Two-time Oscar winning screenwriter William Goldman passes away following a long period of deteriorating health due to colon cancer and pneumonia.
  • Goldman is responsible for the scripts for more than 30 movies such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, All the President’s Men and The Princess Bride.
