India’s first elephant hospital opens in Mathura

  • India’s first specialized hospital for elephants has been Churmura village of Mathura, Uttar Prdaesh.
  • NGO Wildlife SOS is the promoter of the hospital and had established the first elephant conservation and care centre in 2010 and is currently looking after 20 elephants requiring specialised treatment.

India hands over 250 e-Rickshaws to Senegal

  • External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj handed over 250 e-Rickshaws to Ambassador of Senegal El Hadji Ibou Boye in New Delhi.
  • The supply of 250 e-Rickshaws is expected to assist Senegal in adopting clean and efficient energy sources in the area of urban public transport.

Jabong to merge into Myntra; Ananth Narayanan stays CEO

  • All the functions of Jabong will merge into Myntra, Walmart put the two fashion businesses of the Flipkart Group under direct control of CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy (Flipkart CEO).
  • Myntra chief executive officer Ananth Narayanan will lead the Myntra-Jabong team.
  • Flipkart had acquired online fashion portal Myntra in 2014 and Myntra had acquired Jabong in 2016.

Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen in Fortune Business Person of the Year list (12th out of 20)

  • Indian-American Shantanu Narayen, the CEO of Adobe, has been named by Fortune in its 2018 Business Person of the Year list.
  • He has been ranked 12th in the list which ranks 20 business executives “delivering on the bottom line and beyond”.
  • Top: Tricia Griffith (CEO of Insurance Company Progressive )

Asian Development Bank (ADB) Signs 3 Loan Agreements Worth $ 574 Million with India

  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of India has signed three loan agreements for various development projects on November 16, 2018. These includes:
  1. $105 million loan: To continue financing the transmission system upgrades in Himachal Pradesh for increased supply of hydropower to the state and the national grid.
  2. $300 million Loan: To support lending by India Infrastructure Finance Company Limited (IIFCL). Enhance availability of long-term finance for PPP projects, improve operational capacity of IIFCL, and expand the portfolio of infrastructure financing instruments available to IIFCL.
  3. $169 million loan: To develop climate-resilient water supply, sewerage, and drainage infrastructure in at least 10 cities in the State of Tamil Nadu. 

Mohiniattam maestro Kanak Rele named for Birla Kala Shikhar award

  • Kanak Rele will be honoured with ‘Aditya Vikram Birla Kala Shikhar Award for Lifetime Achievement 2018.
  • Kanak Rele is a classical danseuse-cum-scholar and exponent of Mohiniattam dance form.
  • The Aditya Vikram Birla Awards have been instituted by the Sangit Kala Kendra and is the the only institution of its kind recognized by the Union Ministry of Science and Technology as a ‘Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation’.

International Day for Tolerance : 16 November

  • The two-day summit to mark the World Tolerance Day was held in Dubai (UAE).
  • Theme 2018: ‘Prospering from Pluralism: Embracing Diversity through Innovation and Collaboration’.

India Observes National Press Day on November 16

  • November 16 marks National Press Day in India. 
  • This was the day on which the Press Council of India started functioning as a moral watchdog of the press.
