Govt to Issue Rs 75 Coin to Mark 75th Anniversary of Tricolour Hoisting by Bose

  • The Ministry of Finance, Government of India has issued a notification regarding release of Rs 75 coin to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose hoisting the Tricolour for the first time at Port Blair.
  • On December 30, 1943, Bose had hoisted the Tricolour for the first time at Cellular Jail, Port Blair.

NITI Aayog Constitutes Himalayan State Regional Council to be chaired by Dr VK Saraswat

  • NITI Aayog has constituted the ‘Himalayan State Regional Council’ to ensure sustainable development of the Indian Himalayan region. 
  • The Himalayan State Regional Council will be chaired by the Dr VK Saraswat, Member, NITI Aayog

Govt to refund employers for seven weeks of maternity leave to employees: WCD Ministry

  • The government will give employers the salaries for seven of the 26 weeks of maternity leave for women earning more than 15,000 rupees a month.
  • The announcement, which covers the government as well as the private sector, comes in the wake of complaints that many companies were reluctant to hire pregnant women after maternity leave was extended from 12 to 26 weeks and some were even firing women employees.

Odisha signs MOU with AIFF to host National Team Camps; Become Home of Indian arrows

  • All India Football Federation (AIFF) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State Government of Odisha at the Kalinga Stadium complex in Bhuwaneshwar.
  • As per the MoU, the state will act as the host of the AIFF national team camps as well as become home of I-League side of Indian Arrows.
  • The training and connected infrastructure like gymnasiums, swimming pool, etc, will be housed at the Kalinga Stadium Complex.

Odisha to provide free smartphones under Mission Shakti programme

  • Odisha government will provide smartphones to around 70 lakh women under Mission Shakti programme.
  • Mission Shakti was launched in 2001 as a project aiming economic empowerment of women through self-help groups and providing them bank loans at low interest for livelihood opportunities, today 70 lakh women are working with 6 lakh SHGs, with 5,000 crore savings and 2,000 crores annual bank exposure.

Delhi Police Launches E-Learning Portal NIPUN for Personnel Training

  • In order to impart training and provide up to date information to police officers, the Delhi Police has launched an e-learning portal, ‘Nipun’.
  • The portal was launched by the Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik and aims at imparting in-service training to police personnel.
  • The portal will provide online training and information through specialised courses available online which have been designed by experts in various fields.

“Aadi Mahotsav” a National Tribal Festival to be held in New Delhi

  • “Aadi Mahotsav” a National Tribal Festival is being organized in New Delhi. (16-30 November 2018)
  • It is being organized by Ministry of Tribal Affairs and TRIFED to celebrate, cherish and promote the spirit of tribal craft, culture, cuisine and commerce.
  • Theme: “A Celebration of the Spirit of Tribal Culture, Craft, Cuisine and Commerce”

Singapore hands over Asean presidency to Thailand

  • On the concluding day of the ASEAN Summit 2018, Singapores Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong handed over the presidency of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) to his Thai counterpart Prayut Chan-ocha.
  • It means that Thailand will host the ASEAN Summit in 2019. It is conducted twice in a year.

Regional Meet of World Customs Organisation Begins in Jaipur

  • A four-day regional meeting of the World Customs Organisation began in Jaipur, Rajasthan on November 14 with representatives of 33 member countries of Asia attending it. 
  • The meeting is being jointly chaired by WCO Deputy Secretary General Ricardo Travino and Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs Chairman S Ramesh.
  • It would discuss and deliberate upon the amended Kyoto protocol, digital customs, e-commerce among other issues.

Fitch keeps India’s sovereign rating unchanged at BBB-

  • Fitch Ratings has kept India’s sovereign rating unchanged at ‘BBB-‘, the lowest investment grade with a stable outlook.
  • GDP Prediction for FY19 by Fitch- 7.8%

IndusInd Bank launches India’s first interactive credit card with buttons

  • IndusInd Bank has announced the launch of IndusInd Bank Nexxt Credit Card having choice of payment options such as EMI, Reward Points or Credit at the push of a button, on the card, at the point of sale (POS). 
  • According to the bank, this card provides customers with the flexibility of 3 payment options at a POS terminal — Credit, Converting Transactions into EMIs with 4 tenure options (6, 12, 18 & 24 months) or using accumulated Reward Points, by simply pushing a button on the card.

Yes Bank’s non-executive Chairman Ashok Chawla resigns

  • Ashok Chawla non-executive independent part-time Chairman of Yes Bank has resigned. 
  • He is also the chairman of NSE. He resigned from the post in Yes Bank after being named in a corruption chargesheet by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

“Sashakt India Asset Management” formed for resolving large bad loans

  • Sunil Mehta, the chairman of a bankers’ panel working on faster resolution of stressed assets in public sector banks has informed that an asset management company (AMC) for resolving large bad loans has been formed and will be called as “Sashakt India Asset Management Ltd.”
  • The government in July has proposed a five-pronged strategy under Project Sashakt to to tackle stress in the banking sector, and had formed a panel led by Sunil Mehta (Executive Chairman of PNB).
  • Under the project, the committee had to float an AMC and an AIF to resolve non-performing assets (NPAs) over Rs 500 crore. 
  • ICA (inter creditor agreement) is a platform for banks and financial institutions to come together and take concerted efforts towards resolving bad loans under Rs 500 crore. 

Flipkart Group CEO Binny Bansal Resigns

  • Flipkart co-founder and group chief executive officer (CEO) Binny Bansal has resigned from the company with immediate effect. 
  • Bansal’s decision follows an independent investigation done on behalf of the Flipkart and Walmart into an allegation of serious personal misconduct. 
  • Flipkart is now controlled by Walmart Inc after the latter acquired 77 percent of Flipkart for $16 billion in May 2018.
  • Kalyan Krishnamurthy will now continue to be CEO of Flipkart.

Barcelona’s Lionel Messi wins La Liga 2017-18 Player of the Year Award

  • Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has been named La Liga’s best player for the 2017-2018 season.
  • Since the La Liga Awards’ creation,  Lionel Messi has been named La Liga’s best player eight times out of ten and La Liga’s best forward nine times.
