Vice President Naidu to Visit Serbia, Malta, Romania

  • Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu will go on a week-long tour of Serbia, Malta and Romania from  September 14, 2018.
  • He will be accompanied by Union Minister of State for Finance Shiv Pratap Shukla, Rajya Sabha Members Prasanna Acharya, Vijila Satyanand and Saroj Pandey, Lok Sabha Member Raghav Lakhanpal and a business delegation spearheaded by industry body CII.

Rs 10881 crore Dairy Processing & Infrastructure Development Fund Launched

  • The Centre has launched Dairy Processing & Infrastructure Development Fund (DIDF) with an outlay of Rs 10881 crore during the period from 2017-18 to 2028-29.
  • Under this, the first installment of Rs 440 crore was given to the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) by the Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shri Radha Mohan Singh on September 13, 2018.

Naqvi launches National Scholarship Portal Mobile App

  • Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has launched India’s first National Scholarship Portal (NSP) mobile app to make the government welfare schemes more accessible to needy students in transparent manner.
  • The App will ensure a smooth, accessible and hassle-free scholarship system for students from poor and weaker sections. 

Global Hunger Reached ‘Alarming’ Ten-Year High in 2017: UN Report

  • According to the annual UN report titled “The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2018” released on September 11, 2018, more people (821) went hungry in 2017 than at any time in the previous decade globally as food deprivation on the rise due to conflict and climate change. 
  • The report was jointly produced by UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Provisions for TDS/TCS on GST to come into effect from October 1

  • The government has notified October 01, 2018 as the date for implementing the tax deducted at source (TDS) and tax collected at source (TCS) provisions under GST law.
  • As per the Central GST (CGST) Act- TDS at 1 per cent on payments to goods or services suppliers in excess of Rs 2.5 lakh. E-commerce companies will now be required to collect up to 1 per cent TCS while making any payment to suppliers under the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
  • States will levy 1 per cent TDS under state laws. States can levy up to 1 per cent TCS under State GST (SGST) law.

India to launch two UK satellites

  • Indian rocket Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) will put into orbit on September 16, 2018 two foreign satellites – NovaSAR and S1-4 – together weighing 889 kg. The two satellites belong to the UK.
  • Two earth observation satellites will be launched into a 583 km Sun Synchronous Orbit.

Pranab Mukherjee to release book on late barrister Rajni Patel

  • Former President Pranab Mukherjee will be releasing a book on late barrister Rajni Patel
  • The book is titled ”Remembering Rajni” and comprises of essays complied by Bakul Patel wife of Rajni Patel.

French Author Pens Sri Sri’s Authorised Biography

  • French political writer and journalist Francois Gautier has penned the biography of spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar under the name Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: An Authorized Biography.
  • The book will be published by Penguin Random House India and will soon be available in the market.
