World’s first malaria vaccine launched in Malawi (Africa): WHO

  • World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that the world’s first and only malaria vaccine has been launched in the African country of Malawi.
  • It has been launched as a pilot program to protect, in particular, hundreds of thousands of children under five against Malaria.
  • The name of the vaccine is RTS,S. It is the first, and to date the only, vaccine that has demonstrated it can significantly reduce malaria in children.
