Singapore, Hong Kong & Paris Shares 1st Rank in Worldwide Cost of Living 2019 by EIU
- Singapore, Hong Kong and Paris have shared the first position in the latest The Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) 2019 Worldwide Cost of Living Survey released recently.
- It is for the first time in 30-year history of the Worldwide Cost of Living Survey that three cities share the unenviable title of the world’s most expensive city to live in.
- However, Singapore has won the top rank for sixth straight year.
- Switzerland’s Zurich is fourth while Geneva and Japan’s Osaka have shared the fifth spot.
- The world’s cheapest cities include Caracas (Venezuela), Damascus (Syria), Tashkent (Uzbekistan), Almaty (Kazakhstan), Karachi (Pakistan), Lagos (Nigeria), Buenos Aires (Argentina) as well as the three Indian cities of Bengaluru, Chennai(125) and Delhi (123).

The EIU survey compares prices across 160 products and services in 133 cities in 93 countries and all cities are benchmarked against New York, which has an index set at 100.
