RBI sets Average Base Rate to be charged by NBFC-MFIs at 9.21% for Apr-Jun

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has set the applicable average base rate to be charged by Non-Banking Financial Company – Micro Finance Institutions (NBFC-MFIs) to their borrowers for the first quarter of the next fiscal beginning April 01, 2019 at 9.21 percent.

Government Sets up Multi Disciplinary Terror Monitoring Group for J&K to be Headed by ADGP CID of JK Police

  • The Centre has set up a multi-disciplinary terror monitoring group (MDTMG) for collaborative and concerted action against terror financing and terror-related activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The MDTMG will be headed by the Additional DGP, CID of JK Police.
  • The other members of the group will include IGP in J&K police, additional director of Intelligence Bureau in J&K, and representatives of CBI, NIA, ED, CBDT and CBIC.
  • The monitoring group will meet on a weekly basis and submit their action taken report regularly.

Hyper Local Connectivity App “Bhonga” Launched to Connect Users Within 1 Km

  • A Mumbai-based company Linkus Infratech has launched a hyper-local connectivity app named “Bhonga” with the aim to connect people in the same locality even without an Internet connection.
  • “Bhonga” is a Marathi word which means megaphone or loudspeaker.
  • The users having the Bhonga App will be able to send messages to any users with the app within a radius of 1 km, whether known or unknown.
  • Additionally, the app will change its location based upon the geographical location of the phone.
  • The app will help users to post an emergency messages, offers, queries etc.
  • Eventually, the app will collaborate with several non-profit partners like blood-banks, ambulances and other services that could help people in emergency situations.

Bongaigaon District in Assam Comes up with ‘Sankalp’ App for First Time Voters

  • The district administration of Bongaigaon, in western Assam, has unveiled a mobile app named ‘Sankalp’ for the first-time voters to ensure their participation.
  • The app has been developed by the NIC team of the district.
  • All the first-time voters would be sent a message on their mobile phones, requesting them to download the ‘Sankalp’ app.
  • Voter will have to input details like name and age, and the app will track their polling station and other details.
  • Additionally, they will need to sign a digital ‘sankalp patra’, promising to cast their votes on the day of polling.

Assam Launches Special Initiative ‘Enajori’ for People with Disabilities

  • The chief electoral officer (CEO) of Assam, Mukesh Sahu has launched an initiative named “Enajori” to make the upcoming Lok Sabha Election 2019 accessible for people with disability (PwD) voters in the state.
  • The initiative is a joint effort of CEO Assam and Social Welfare Department.
  • Under Enajori, Social Welfare Department will conduct sensitization programmes to aware PwD voters about Braille system.

GAIL and BHEL Signs MoU for Development of Solar Power Projects

  • Maharatna public sector units GAIL India Ltd and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the development of solar power projects.
  • The two companies will leverage their competitive strengths for participation in tariff and viability gap funding based competitive bidding process for jointly pursuing commercial solar power projects.
  • While, GAIL will be the project developer, BHEL will act as an engineering, procurement, construction and project management contractor and also provide operation and maintenance services during the initial period after becoming a successful bidder.

  • They have been awarded the ‘Mark of Sustained Quality’ for maintaining high quality services to their patients at the comfort of their home, by QAI (Quality and Accreditation Institute) for a period of 3 years starting January 2019.

South Korea defeats India to win Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey tournament

  • South Korea has defeated India 4-2 in the finals (with penalty shootout) to win the Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey tournament 2019. 
  • The game ended with equal scores of 1-1. As a result, a penalty shootout that took place resulted in South Korea defeating India by 4-2.
  • The event was held in Ipoh, Malaysia. The host Malaysia Has secured the 3rd place. Manpreet Singh was the captain of Indian Hockey Team.

Shanghai becomes world’s first district with 5G coverage, broadband gigabit network

  • Shanghai district of China has claimed that it has  become the world’s first district using both 5G coverage and broadband gigabit network.
