The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi approved the following MoUs

Morocco promote exchange of information and technical cooperation in the field of Housing and Human Settlement
Argentine Antarctic cooperation
Saudi Arabia cooperation in the field of Housing
Republic of Korea Startup Cooperation
Indonesia combating illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and its precursors

The Union cabinet also approved

  • Acquiring land of Central Water Commission at Nallagandla, Hyderabad by Telangana State Government for road widening
  • Creation of additional posts of three Judicial Members and three Technical Members in the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT).

India Successfully Conductes Anti-Satellite Missile Test ‘Mission Shakti’

  • On March 27, 2019, India successfully conducted an Anti-Satellite (A-SAT) missile test, code named as ‘Mission Shakti’, from Dr A P J Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha.
  • Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) carried out the testing of Ballistic Missile, Defence Interceptor Missile by shooting down a satellite parked at low earth orbit at a distance of 300 kilometres from the earth.
  • The state-of-the-art missile technology destroyed the live mini satellite in space within three minutes.
  • With this achievement, India has now become the only fourth nation after US, Russia and China to have such capability.

President Kovind Bestowed with Croatia’s Highest Civilian Order

  • President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind was honoured with the highest civilian award of Croatia, the Grand Order of the King of Tomislav on March 26, 2019.
  • He received the civilian order for his contribution towards the development of state relations between Croatia and India.
  • President Kovind was presented with the award during his eight-day three-nation visit to Croatia, Bolivia and Chile to further strengthen bilateral ties between India and the three countries.

Trio of Bengio, Hinton, and LeCun wins 2018 Turing Award – “Nobel Prize of computing”

  • Yoshua Bengio, Geoffrey Hinton, and Yann LeCun have won the 2018 Turing Award, known as the “Nobel Prize of computing”.
  • The trio is known as  ‘godfathers of AI’. They are known for laying the foundations for the current boom in artificial intelligence.
  • The techniques the trio developed in the 1990s and 2000s enabled huge breakthroughs in tasks like computer vision and speech recognition.

Azali Assoumani Re-Elected as President of Comoros for Second Term

  • Comoros President Azali Assoumani has won a second consecutive presidential term on March 27, 2019.
  • The 66-year-old president, who first took the office in 2016, won with majority vote of 60.77 percent.

Chetan Bhagat announces book titled “India Positive”

  • Author Chetan Bhagat has announced the launch of his new book titled “India Positive”. It is a non-fiction book comprises essays on a variety of subjects such as education, employment, GST, corruption and casteism.
  • The book will be launched in May 2019.

World Theater Day: March 27

  • The World Theater Day is observed annually on March 27. The day was created in 1962 by the International Theatre Institute (ITI).
  • The theme for 2019 WTD is “Theatre and a Culture of Peace”.
