HRD Ministry launched SHREYAS Scheme

  • Minister for Human Resources Development, Shri Prakash Javadekar has launched the Scheme for Higher Education Youth in Apprenticeship and Skills (SHREYAS).
  • The scheme has been launched for graduates passing in April 2019 and will be provided industry apprenticeship opportunities through the National Apprenticeship Promotional Scheme (NAPS).
  • The program aims to enhance the employability of Indian youth by providing ‘on the job work exposure’ and earning of stipend.
  • SHREYAS is a programme basket comprising the initiatives of three Central Ministries
    • Ministry of Human Resource Development
    • Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and
    • Ministry of Labour& Employment
      viz the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), the National Career Service (NCS)andintroduction of BA/BSc/BCom (Professional) courses in the higher educational institutions. 

Aviation Conclave 2019 held in New Delhi with Theme- “Flying for All”

  • Shri Suresh Prabhu inaugurated the Aviation Conclave 2019 on February 27, 2019 in New Delhi.  The theme of the event was “Flying for All”.
  • The Conclave outlined roadmap for aircraft manufacturing, aircraft leasing and financing for long term asset creation, cargo policy and financial services, optimization of resource utilisation with technology input as some of the areas of high importance for the aviation sector.
  • The event was organised by the Ministry of Civil Aviation in association with Airports Authority of India, AAICLAS and Confederation of Indian Industry

Assam Government launches PRANAM Commission to Protect Parents of Govt Employees

  • Sarbananda Sonowal, the Chief Minister of Assam has launched the PRANAM Commission. It is a panel set up to look after the issues concerning to the PRANAM Bill that was launched by Assam Government in 2018. 
  • The PRANAM Bill stands for Parents Responsibility and Norms for Accountability and Monitoring. AS per the bill, if the PRANAM Commission gets a complaint that parents of a state government employee is being ignored, then 10 or 15 per cent of the employee’s salary will be deducted by the government and paid to the parents or differently abled siblings. 
  • It is the first of its kind bill in India. 
  • Members of the PRANAM Commission– V B Pyarelal, Dr Alaka Desai Sarma and Jugabala Buragohain

Delhi Police launches automated traffic management system in association with Maruti Suzuki

  • Delhi Police has launched the first-of-its-kind completely automated traffic management system in Delhi in association with Maruti Suzuki. 
  • Red Light Violation Detection System and Speed Violation Detection System has been launched by the Delhi police that does everything from violation capturing to issuance of an e-challan without human intervention. 
  • Maruti Suzuki India has invested about Rs 16 crore in setting up the systems.

Mukesh Ambani ranked 8th on Hurun Global Rich List 2019; Top- Jeff Bezos

  • Mukesh Ambani has been ranked 8th in the Hurun Global Rich List 2019. He is the only Asian in top 10. (networth of $54 billion). He was on the joint 8th along with Sergey Brin of Google.
  • The list has been topped by Jeff Bezos of Amazon. (Networth- $147 billion)

Venkaiah Naidu Releases Book Titled “Quality, Accreditation and Ranking”

  • The Vice President of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu released the book named “Quality, Accreditation and Ranking – A Silent Revolution in the Offing in Indian Higher Education” during a book launch function in New Delhi
  • The book has been edited and complied by BIMTECH Director, Dr. H Chaturvedi and his fellow authors.
  • The book contains articles, essays and research papers authored by some of the prominent educationists, policy makers, researchers and a media person to present an analysis of the past and present scenario in the Indian Higher Education.

Muhammadu Buhari Re-Elected as Nigerian President

  • Muhammadu Buhari was re-elected as the President of Nigeria on February 26, 2019.
  • The 76-year-old All Progressives Congress leader Buhari defeated People’s Democratic Party opponent Atiku Abubakar.
  • This is his second consecutive term as the President for a period of four year.
