Sunil Lanba Inaugurates Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Training Facility “Abhedya” at INS Shivaji

  • The Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Training Facility (NBCTF) of the Indian Navy was inaugurated by the Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Sunil Lanba at INS Shivaji in Lonavala.
  • Christened as “Abhedya”, (impenetrable in Sanskrit), the NBCTF will provide realistic training to personnel of naval ships in detection, protection against and decontamination of nuclear, biological and chemical agents.
  • INS Shivaji is also celebrating its platinum jubilee year in 2019-20.

India-Australia Naval Exercise AUSINDEX 2019 to be held in Visakhapatnam in April 2019

  • The third edition of the bilateral naval Exercise AUSINDEX between India and Australia, will take place off the coast of Vishakhapatnam in Bay of Bengal from April 2 to 16, 2019.
  • The Exercise AUSINDEX 2019 will see four ships of Royal Australian Navy namely HMAS Canberra, HMAS Newcastle, HMAS Parramatta and HMAS Success.
  • After the conclusion of the exercise, these ships will sail to Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Singapore, for exercising with their navies.
  • Jointly known as Indo-Pacific Endeavour, the Royal Australian Navy conducts the series of bilateral exercises with the navies of these countries since last three years.
  • AUSINDEX 2019 will be the core of Indo-Pacific Endeavour-19.

Indo-Sri Lanka Joint Exercise Mitra Shakti-VI Commences in Sri Lanka

  • The joint bilateral army exercise MITRA SHAKTI-VI between India and Sri Lanka began on March 26, 2019 at Diyatalawa in Sri Lanka.
  • The two weeks long exercise will conclude on April 8, 2019.
  • Troops from 1st Battalion the BIHAR Regiment of the Indian Army and Gemunu Watch Battalion of Sri Lankan Army would be jointly undertaking the exercise.
  • The exercise is held annually in India and Sri Lanka alternatively to build Military to Military co-operation and interoperability between the two armies

15th Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA-19) Begins in Malaysia

  • The 15th edition of Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA-19) began in Langkawi, Malaysia on March 26.
  • The five days event will conclude on March 30, 2019.
  • The Indian Air Force is participating in the Maritime Aero Expo for the first time.
  • During the expo, India will showcase its indigenous supersonic Light Combat Aircraft (LCA)-Tejas.
  • In addition to this, Indian Navy’s Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Corvette INS Kadmatt will also take part in LIMA 2019. INS Kadmatt is the second ship of Project 28 (P28) class

Bank of Baroda signs agreement with 6 companies to develop agri-digital platform ‘Baroda Kisan’

  • Bank of Baroda has signed MoU with six companies to develop an agriculture digital platform, ‘Baroda Kisan’ that will provide solutions for agricultural requirements.
  • The platform aims to solve agricultural plights by providing reliable and customized information, inputs for use, the convenience of renting farm equipment, and market linkage for sale of agriculture produce.

K. Govindaraj Re-elected President of the Basketball Federation of India (BFI)

  • K. Govindaraj has been unanimously re-elected as president of the Basketball Federation of India (BFI).
  • Besides, Chander Mukhi Sharma has been re-elected secretary-general.

Karur Vysya Bank appoints N S Srinath as chairman

  • N S Srinath has been appointed as the Chairman (non-executive) of the Karur Vysya Bank. Earlier he was the Non-Executive Independent Director on the board of the bank.
