PM Modi Unveils 800 Kg Bhagavad Gita at ISKCON in Delhi

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi attended the Gita Aradhana Mahotsav at ISKCON Temple in New Delhi on February 26, 2019.
  • He inaugurated the one of its kind 800 kilogramme Bhagavad GitaIt has been prepared by ISKCON devotees.
  • ISKCON has dubbed the book as the “Astounding Bhagavad Gita” and “largest principle sacred text ever to be printed”.
  • The book measures 2.8 metres by 2 metres and consists of 670 pages. It also consists of 18 exquisite paintings.
  • It has been printed in Milan, Italy on YUPO synthetic paper which is untearable and waterproof”.

Textile Minister Inaugurates ‘Titanwala Museum’ in Rajasthan’s Bagru

  • The Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani inaugurated the ‘Titanwala Museum’ at Bagru in Rajasthan on February 25, 2019.
  • The museum aims to showcase the art of traditional hand block printing of the Chhipa community in Bagru.

Skill Saathi Youth Conclave Held in Odisha

  • The Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) organised the ‘Skill Saathi Youth Conclave’ in Bhubaneswar on February 25.
  • Skill Saathi is a career counselling initiative of National Skill Development Corporation, MSDE to raise awareness about various programmes under Skill India Mission and guide candidates by providing them with information on career paths and opportunities.
  • The Conclave was addressed by Dharmendra Pradhan via video-conference at 427 locations/blocks, covering 30 districts in the state.
  • 10 Counselling Implementing Organisations (CIOs) have been empanelled under the ‘Skill Saathi’ initiative in Odisha.

India ranked 47th in ‘Inclusive’ Internet list: Facebook; Top- Sweden

  • India has been ranked at 47th in the “Inclusive Internet Index 2019” prepared by Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) for Facebook. 
  • Sweden has topped the ranking while Congo is on the last spot (100th). 
  • The overall Index score was based on the scores of the Availability, Affordability, Relevance and Readiness categories of the Internet and its infrastructure.

India Ranks 67th in Passport Index 2019

  • India has been ranked at 67th spot in the 2019 Passport Index rankings.
  • The index ranks the most powerful passports among 199 countries on the basis of the UNDP Human Development Index and visa-free scores.
  • India provides visa-free access to 25 countries, visa on arrival to 39 countries and visa requirement for 134 countries is compulsory.
  • The UAE passport topped the index with visa-free access to 167 countries, followed by Germany at second and the USA and France at joint third.

RBI brings 3 banks out of PCA Framework: Allahabad Bank,Corporation Bank and Dhanlaxmi Bank

  • The Reserve Bank of India on February 26, 2019 announced that Allahabad Bank, Corporation Bank, and Dhanlaxmi Bank have been brought out of the PCA Framework.
  • Recently Allahabad Bank and Corporation Bank had received ₹ 6896 crore and ₹ 9086 crore respectively. This has shored up their capital funds and also increased their loan loss provision to ensure that the PCA parameters were complied with.

Reserve Bank of India extends deadline for completion of KYC for PPIs by 6 months

  • The Reserve Bank of India had earlier set a deadline for Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPI) issuers to complete the Know Your Customer (KYC) process by February 28, 2019. 
  • However, now the Reserve Bank of India has extended the deadline by 6 months. The new deadline hence stands at 31 August, 2019. 

India-Bangladesh Joint Military Exercise Sampriti 2019 to be held at Tangail

  • The Indo-Bangladesh joint military exercise Sampriti-2019 is scheduled to be held at Tangail in Bangladesh from 02 March to 15 March 2019.
  • Sampriti 2019 will be the eighth edition of the bilateral defence cooperation exercise.

India Successfully Test Fires Two Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile off Odisha Coast

  • India successfully test fired two Quick Reach Surface-to-Air missiles (QRSAMs) from ITR Chandipur, off the Odisha Coast on February 26, 2019.
  • The two indigenously developed state-of-the-art short-range missiles were tested for different altitude and conditions.
  • Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM) has been developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in association with Bharat Electronics Limited and Bharat Dynamics Limited for the Indian Army.

Govind Prasad Sharma appointed as Chairman of NBT

  • Govind Prasad Sharma, an author, and educationalist has been appointed as the Chairman of the National Book Trust (NBT).
  • NBT is an autonomous organization under the  Ministry of Human Resource Development.
